The Mongoose 1,007
From the TelegraphRangers in crisis: Brechin City prepare for visit of Glasgow giants but uncertainty continuesSecond Division Brechin City will become either the first lower-league club to benefit from re-animated Rangers being placed in the Third Division or the first to lose money as a result of the Mexican stand-off between the former Glasgow giants and the Scottish Football Association. The part-timers are hoping to cash in on their Ramsdens Cup first-round tie against Ally McCoist's side at Glebe Park, which will be the competitive debut for Charles Green's Sevco Scotland Ltd - assuming, that is, his new entity is granted membership of the SFA, without which it cannot enter the competition.Demand will certainly outstrip supply for the fixture, with Brechin's ground holding just 4,200. However, armchair supporters will be able to follow the action, which will be broadcast live by niche channel by BBC Alba.Last season the station showed Scottish Premier League matches in their entirety (almost without exception excluding those involving Celtic or Rangers) as a delayed transmission on Saturday evenings. With viewing figures so low that the BBC refuses to utilise the services of ratings monitor Broadcasters' Audience Research Board to attempt to quantify them (the 2001 census revealed that there were only 58,652 Gaelic speakers in the country and Alba is the only BBC channel not to be assessed in this way).Their numbers should, however, receive a welcome boost, beating the audience for last season's live coverage of the Second Division play-offs Consequently, the match has been put back 24 hours to Sunday, July 29, provided it takes place at all. Rangers assumed Dundee's slot in the competition once the latter replaced them in the Scottish Premier League, but failure to secure agreement with SFA officials over the conditions attached to membership (which are as much to do with Green's unwillingness or inability to disclose details of his financial backers as it is about further sanctions to be imposed on the newco) will see Brechin receive a bye. That is not an outcome the Angus club would welcome. The current uncertainty could quickly become a logistical nightmare as they attempt to prepare for what they hope will be a lucrative afternoon. However, should the tie fail to go ahead it could end up costing them money they can scarcely afford for printing and distributing programmes and tickets, as well as the other start-up costs for a fixture of this size.“It's been decided that the tie will be all-ticket and, after a meeting between our ground safety officer and the police this morning, our capacity has been increased from 4,009 to 4,200,” said club secretary Angus Fairlie.“We'll obviously need to send tickets to Ranger so that they can sell them to their supporters and that will be done before the end of the week. We're also in the process of selling corporate hospitality for the match.“The Challenge Cup isn't the best-paying tournament so it would be nice to make some money from it this time, assuming everything is sorted out.“I know there are deadlines to be met and meetings to be had but in the modern era, this should have been dealt with more quickly.“We are where we are, as other people say, but this whole Rangers thing has been a mess, a shambles.”

CraigG 56
The bit that worries me is that the match might not take place at all unless we are given a licence. I wish they would hurry up with this.
