They have changed it here now but on the continent there were no competitive leagus until U11 i think. Different mentality. The problem may well be that in Scotland when you 'train' as a kid it is all running, jumping, kicking, pulling jerseys, swearing and the likes. Then you become a pro and you do the above for 3 hours a day and then go play pool or golf. In the continent the use a thing called a 'football' in training, while the still do the running and stamina work (plus diving) they mostly always have a ball at there feet making them much more comfortable with it over time. I remember as a kid running up and down grass hills doing sprints and stretches, push ups, sit ups then we would get a 5/10 minute game at the end.
