  1. I agree - Buffel is not a winger, but when he's asked to play there he does well.

A waste of his talent, I would still play him in the place of Dado. We would then have to play on the ground and the pace would be more suited to the tempo which suits us best.

Dado, for all his work rate, gets himself blocked and bogged down through lack of pace and we lose momentum and the ball too much.

  2. Danny my point is with Boyd's scoring record you cannot say Dado is the equal of Boyd as a striker. (Strikers are there for striking!)

Burke although injured is far and away the best winger - forget Buffel and Sionko.

    Thats all Buddy!

    :P

    Buffel is not a winger.

Sionko seems only to play 45 minutes and doesn't seem inclined to go past his opponent.

Burke is a winger who cannot cross the ball.

When you think about it Smith and Hutton are far more effective in these areas.

  3. I know at this time of year the pitch is not going to be brilliant but the state of the Ibrox pitch is a f*cken disgrace! What do the groundsmen do all day?

Le Guen is trying to bring a different style of play to the team, they could at least have a half decent pitch forr the guys to play on!

I'm with you on that on (tu)

I remember watching them play at Ibrox late November and thinking, the pitch is a shambles. Then when the commentator mentioned about the weather I guess I just overlooked it. However I can't really remember thinking the same about the pitch this time last year.

The rainfall was exceptional and constant for a week before the partizan game. The pitch had no time to recover after being churned up in that game and was made worse by the tinks doing their warm up on it rather than over the touchline.

Look at Hampden, Fir Park, and Parkhead in a normal winter and spring which tend to be like Ibrox was on sunday.

  4. Can we really get him fired up again. Seems to have mellowed too much recently.

    No?

When the wee man with the bunnet was across the city Murray and Fergus didn't let the SFA and SPL get away with anything. Now the tail wags the dog and everything is done for the benefit of the likes of Dunfermline, Motherwell etc, who now can outvote the big two.

WE lost our power when McCleland took over as chief executive for a couple of years and he compromised over everything.and seemed to forget that the old firm subsidise every other team in scotland.

I agree that Murray should stand up more for our club.

  5. I honestly believe he's ready to hand over the reins. I'll take him at his word and it won't happen until someone comes forward with the two credentials he's looking for. Lots of money and a bluenose. TOM FARMER ?

    This is a wind up!!

    Don't you mean TOM HUNTER.

  6. Has Klos not stated he will retire from football at the end of the season?

If so we would not get anything for him.

    Definitely try to move;

    Rae

    JRod

    Burke

    Murray

Sionko, a 45 minute player and one who jumps out of challenges.

Sebo, although I doubt if he would attract much interest.

In reality I don't think much money will be raised if we could get rid of these players.

  7. After hearing of the comments made by PLG about the captaincy in Scottish football I think he is right, to a certain extent.

Don't get me wrong, without Barry commanding the team I think we would have quite a few more bad results than what we've had this season. However, why should that pressure be put on one player alone in a TEAM.

Ferguson works his heart out, organises the team, gives criticism where it is due. Why shouldn't every other player do the same? Wouldn't it benefit the team if that was the case?

    JMO.

To show how important a captains role was in the past few seasons for us,remember Stefan Klos, the quietest man at Ibrox was given that motivating role.

Barry leads by example and by spurring on his team, which he did when he wasn't captain and will always do.

  8. He was constantly linked with us before he went to Everton - so we lost the chance of getting for a reasonable price

To go after him now would be another appauling piece of business -

Anyway - Am I the only one who isn't totally convinced on this guy's ability, effectiveness - or am I judging him wrongly based on Scotland performances ?

He doesn't seem to be MOM with Everton very often if ever ? Seems to be frequently on the bench - who is keeping him out of the team ?

Anyone on this board see him week in / out ? Is he any good ? consistent ?

Apart from his temperamental lack of discipline, his lack of pace is a huge problem. He can certainly beat his opponents with skill but is unable to get away from them and has to beat them again, eventually losing the ball and the chance to help his team.

  9. No disrespect to big dado but when boyd comes back he should partner novo upfront with the big guy coming off the bench.

He will be retiring at end of season due to his dodgy knee so lets try other partnerships for the rest of this season.

I would agree that this is the partnership I would like up front. The downside is that Boyd will not do what Dado does in running to space and holding the ball so Sionko, if he is picked will have to show a lot more. Maybe Buffel in the midfield instead would help.

  10. I think its fair to say that the English Championship is higher standard then the SPL so how do you think Billy boy Davies would have been if he was manager of RFC.

He is doing an excellent job at Derby who were struggling until he arrived and he was my choice along with George Burley before PLG was even mentioned

It all came together for Derby when big Boab arrived, and that's nae kidd'n. (tu)

You mean when he got injured, surely.

  11. billy davies is a good manager and has done well at every club he has managed.

Still has to prove he can take the next step and actually achieve something which he failed to do with his previous clubs.

Prefer to have a manager who has had success at a high level.

  12. Svensson isnt a small player and can win headers, its just not his strength. Asking him to win 15-20 headers in a game and contact with them well, is completely different from bringing in a commanding centre half, who will attack almost everything in the air and therefore only asking Svensson to win 5-6 headers max.

If only football was so simple. Yes one or other of the defenders attacks the ball and the other covers. But you don't have a defender whose role is do one of these tasks. The ball is played into different areas and the game is played at pace and opponents are allowed to move. You cannot afford to have your defender waiting for his colleague perhaps 20yards away to come and attack the ball in the area you are holding at the time.

Svenssons profession is a central defender and would have been playing that position since his teens and he is not that small but lacks the timing and technique to head the ball properly(watch his warm up attempts to head the thrown ball)

    "Dear opposition manager,

We have signed a commanding central defender to play alongside Karl. Could you please ensure all crosses and high balls are played into our new player as that would give Karl the chance to cover behind. Also instruct your forwards not to make runs in case they draw him out of position.

Another problem I have at the moment is on the left side of defence where we have been exposed recently as our left midfielder finds it difficult to track back at times and our left back gets drawn ino the centre of defence. Could you instruct your players that the area on our left side from the 18 yard box to the touchline for 40 yards from the bye line should not be entered. OH and Sebo may find himself in a 1 on 1 situation with your goalie,he will shoot sraight at him, so ask him to move out the way of the shot.

    Thank,

    plg"

Simple solution and we win the league.Or maybe life isn't like that.

  13. MacGregor isn't great with cross balls, but neither was Klos but he knew this and stayed on his line and done what he does best, stops shots. MacGregor comes for far too many crosses that he may not get to, like Klos he's a good shot stopper and should take a leaf out of his book and stay on his line more often.

The Graveson goal reminds me of the one Hartson scored at the Broomloan end 3 years ago, similar distance and angle.

Klos stayed on his line for that one and was criticised for doing so.

Basically the ball got through to Graveson who was unmarked with time and space to shoot, if McGragor had stayed on his line the ball would still have gone to Graveson and the outcome would have been the same.

The question should be why he was given the space.

  14. The majority of teams in the world play 1 commanding defender (who goes and attacks the ball) and 1 defender who sweeps up in behind, anticipates flick ons, loose balls and makes last ditch tackles.

Man Utd - Vidic attacks the ball, Rio covers in behind

Chelsea - Terry attacks the ball, Carvalho covers in behind

Liverpool - Hypia attacks the ball, Carragher covers in behind

Rangers have the covering defender in Svensson, they just need to find the defender who is going to attack the ball.

All these players are big commanding players in their own right as well as, and this is the difference, top class internationals.

I agree with your argument about the attacking and covering player but any opposition will target weaknesses and and even as a covering defender Svensson will have to improve more dramatically to fulfil that role.

  15. There is a definate improvement but thats come from playing a settled format. We definately need a CH to play alongside Svensson and let Hemdani play where he belongs in the midfield.I honestly believe Svensson will be a great player for Gers if he has a commanding presence beside him then in the next season or two he will be the one who commands the penalty area.

Dare I say it, Elvis ????

The commanding central defender theory to improve Svensson is a red herring in my opinion.

It would certainly improve the defence but Svensson needs to improve his timing, heading, positioning, marking and awareness.( I couldn't believe it yesterday when he turned his back on the ball as it bounced in the area)

Only the player can improve his play. Even with a dominant defender the opposition will still target a weak link.It ia almost like saying we could play Burke, for example, won't win the ball in the air, cannot tackle,at central defence with a dominant defender beside him

  16. Watched the game on Setanta tonight having been at the game in the afternoon. I thought then that Clement had a good game but on tv without the tension etc I saw that he had a fantastic game, closing down, intercepting, tackling and moving the ball on.
