I take back all my criticism about Lawrence ( as long as we hold on)

Surely there must be someone even in the academy who can kick the ball without taking two or three touches in the box.

Fair points.
How many of our defenders would have made the 9 in a row starting 11?
Another big difference apart from the massive gap in quality was work ethic; quality individually but would fill in for their colleagues if they roamed. Even in the second spell with less quality players Walter would come downstairs to he dug out and the work rate would intensify dramatically. Our present players have had it too easy for too long and I hoped Big Phil would have been able to sort that out.

I have to laugh at the usual guff about Tav is hopeless at defending. The full back role has changed over the years but so many here live in the past. A full back is now an attacking role relying on crosses and assists.
Just look at the EPL and the international full backs; Alexander- Arnold great crosser and dead ball specialist - hopeless defender, Trippier same, Cresswell, Zinchenko, Dalot , Luke Shaw all good going forward but disasters in defence. Noticeable that the top two teams play one natural central defender in a full back role just like Walter did all through his managerial career.

When we play at a quick tempo everything improves especially passing and we can beat every team in our league. The problem is when we face te Ross Counties etc in the bottom half our tempo is less than walking pace , our passing is off and we continually play into poorer teams hands. We allow them to pack their defence and push everyone forward with our usual ploy of getting the ball wide for hopeless crosses to the packed defence,
When this doesn’t work desperation sets in and we continue to do the same thing only worse and all discipline goes and we lose stupid goals. The amount of points we lose to bottom 3 teams has been embarrassing for years and smacks of arrogance rather than pressure.
Even going ahead our efforts to control the game is amateurish; rather than keep possession in the opposition half we tend to pass the ball along our own box culminating in the pass back to the goalie to kick it long giving away possession. I had hoped with a more clued up manager this would have been drilled out of the players.

The points lost against bottom six sides ruined our chances not points lost against them.

I am still wary about buying these youngish SPL stars. We got good performances from Jack and Kamara but then look at the “ future stars” like , Hastie and Docherty and the Wright, Jones and O’ Halloran wasters. It can be a huge step up from looking good in a mid table or in Barrons case a bottom six team to a team where the odd good game is nowhere near good enough.

The injury ruined him. Shadow of the player.
Was not impressed by him before his injury; looked yards off pace, shoddy control, loose passing. At the time I excused him thinking he was trying too hard to impress but I think he is merely a nearly. Nearly makes a pass, nearly gets a clean strike, nearly makes an impact.

I said it on the other mob post yesterday.
Forrest has scored more goals in the past week (3) than Lawrence, McCausland, Wright and Roofe have this season so far.
The lack of goals from the wing and midfield kills us every season. It’s embarrassing tbh.
Spot on! Our goal return from midfield has been a disgrace for years and most teams have a decent return from central defenders as well from corners.

Injury free is now a barometer for success at us.
He’s had 18 attempts at domestic trophies in his time here and won 3. Even if you give them all a pass in Gerrard’s first season just to be kind due to the upheaval, 3 in 15 is laughable.
What’s the achievement? Completing Scottish football? There’s players in their team who have double the amount of trophies he has in half the time.
Maybe the achievement is the effort to hold the defence while coping with a succession of bomb scares alongside him in central defence and weak midfielders in front, not to mention at left back. Love how our most consistent players get the blame for the collective failure.

It is criminal that we have to keep relying on the same group with no sign of any promise or competition from our youth or academy ranks. Surely we must be able to produce better than the dross that appears every week?

Ahem. Throw ins as well.
We do not have long throw specialist so like every team full backs take throw ins.

Massive call by Clement, but one most would agree with
I would have dropped Souttar, to stabilise the back four.

The old adage is that successful teams must have a good spine; keeper, central defender, central midfielder, central striker. We certainly do not have that, no dominant striker, we have no midfield at all, central defence is all over the place. No wonder we have little belief.

Crazy that a few weeks ago we had the best defensive stats and second top goals scored. What has changed? Basically the same back 4 with Borna/ Ridvan, and Balogun/Souttar.
Has the introduction of Lawrence and Dowell caused so much disruption to the set up?
Something has caused this implosion at the back and at the front.

Not his fault that he he was yet another in a long line to suffer the Rangers injury curse, but doesn't excuse the lack of effort and the aimless passive jogging around the park.
Even before his injuries I thought the pace of our game was beyond him and his touch and balance were below an acceptable level.

Phil it must be obvious that Lawrence and Dowell are way short of the quality, fitness and commitment needed to play for us. Cantwell plays for himself and Lundstram has either downed tools or has some issues. In short our midfield is offering nothing but high blood pressure.
I was going to talk about the striker situation but need to lie down.

Lawrence is nowhere good enough, Cantwell is a headless showpony , Silva is not dry good and does not care.Lundstram seems to have downed tools. This has been obvious the past games.

County game binned the notion that you can get away with only playing one centre mid.
Dowell had no clue where to stand half the time. When to press, when to drop.
Both on and off the ball it’s a completely different skill set.
Get through tonight hopefully and we should look a lot better with Diomande back in there.
If we go to the Piggery with Yilmaz back and a proper midfield. Maybe Lundstrum, Diomande and Sterling. We can get a result.
There was no structure or formation as far as I could see. Dowell played for a few minutes then disappeared. Lundstram was well off the pace and Cantwell ran about playing his own game with no end product. I have never seen a midfield being so dominated as happened to us on Sunday.

How about Dessers just for comedy value? He would not be allowed the three touches and the switch to his left foot so would probably blow a fuse.
