I reserved judgement on Murphy after seeing a string of players come up here from England and our fans thinking they would be great just because they played down there, it's early days but Murphy doesn't look great yet we had people on here making bold predictions about the impact he would have, same with Dorrans earlier in the season. FWIW I think both of them will become decent enough players for us. What we really need is a manager who can get the best out the players at his disposal.

Yes, this season we seen Danny Wilson up his game a little as renewal time beckoned, people on here praising him saying he was our best defender and having romantic notions of him becoming the star we thought he was going to be when he signed for Liverpool. Imo he took us for mugs the previous seasons with his half arsed efforts. Bates doesn't strike me as this sort of character and is improving and has all the raw ingredients to be a really good defender.

I thought that in the summer when we signed the vastly experienced Alves and the young potential 15 million poubds defender Fabio Cardoso. Bates hasn't let the team down this season and is our best defender imo.
