IronMonger1872 607 Posted October 15, 2013 Share Posted October 15, 2013 Hearts were formed in 1874 and was named after a local dancing hall in the Gorgie area and not the old Edinburgh tollbooth which was demolished in 1817 which was where Sir Walter Scott based the novel on where's Hibs were formed in 1875 in Cowgate a predominantly Irish Catholic area of Edinburgh at the time and were named after the Roman name of Ireland which was Hibernia Quote Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
