Morgaro Gomis - Dundee Utd.

After signing Kenny Miller this week, and with Andrius Velicka in Glasgow for a medical and contract talks, it seems that Walter Smith is now trying to strengthen his midfield. He has set his sights on Dundee United's Morgaro Gomis.

He impressed Smith in two draws between the two clubs in March and the Rangers coach reckons he is well worth the price, which is expected to be around £1million.

The 22 year-old signed a lucrative new two-year deal in September so Dundee can negotiate from a healthy position and will try to push for the full million.

Last night United said there had been no offers for the player, but reports state that United coach Craig Levein is well aware of the interest from Ibrox.

A healthy fee for Gomis would help fund Levein's own summer transfer activity, with the United boss keen to land £200,000-rated Willo Flood, who also excelled during a season-long loan, on a permanent deal from Cardiff City.

United are also set to complete the signing of 19-year-old German striker Andis Shala from VFR Mannheim shortly.

If we are talking about long term than Prince Bauben would be a better signing that Gomis.

He was brought through the ranks at Ajax, but was only released due to not being able to get a work visa. It also means that he will know how to play football "the right way"

He's two years younger than Gomis and he has already broke into a Ghana squad that boasts Essien, Muntari & Appiah among it's midfielders.

Journalists have used words like imagination, craft and range of passing when talking about him too. Three things we badly need.

That will be why Smith has probably never noticed him.

Gomis runs about like a headless chicken, cant pass and his positioning in the middle of the park at times is awful.

Tangerines stay calm

Dundee United were today remaining calm and confident of holding on to their prized assets, despite Rangers being linked with not one but two of their best performers (writes Tom Duthie).

A weekend report revealed the Ibrox side have been eyeing midfielder Morgaro Gomis and it is also understood Ibrox boss Walter Smith has been impressed by skipper Lee Wilkie form over the last year.

There have, however, been no bids for either player and the Tangerines are confident both will be in their line up when the new season starts at Hamilton in just under two months.

Indeed, boss Craig Levein was focusing on adding to his squad, not seeing it depleted by summer sales.

The next 24 hours will see him fix up young German striker Andis Shala, who is due in Dundee later today and expected to complete his move from VfR Mannheim tomorrow morning.

And Craig is making progress to adding others to a list of arrivals that already has the name of Dundee’s Scott Robertson on it.

Lee Wilkie... i don't know if i should Laugh or Cry at this

I wouldnt put it past Smith to try and sign Wilkie.

He plays in the SPL

He's Scottish

He's injury prone

He's shit

He just lumps the ball up the park

You always criticise Rangers and anything to do with them and now you have an avatar with a player in a Celtic top.

Are you trying to tell us something? :D
