DUFC fan in peace here, because of the issues between our clubs in last decade, it’s easy to forget there was once a great mutual respect between our clubs.
In Walter we’ve both lost a massive figure of our respective clubs, his time at Rangers is rightly what he’ll be remembered by, but Walter also spent a significant portion of his life at Tannadice, he played almost his entire career here, and was Jim McLean’s assistant throughout the greatest period in United’s history, playing a massive part in taking us to our only league title, and the great European runs in the 80’s. It saddens me that both him and Jim, two of the greatest this country ever has, and ever will produce, have left us within less than a year of each other.
I know Walter was saddened and disappointed by the feud between our clubs, the two clubs that played the most important part in his life, and it’s a shame he never got to see some sort of resolution before he went.
My condolences to RFC, we’ve both lost a huge legend of our clubs’ history, and we share your grief at losing the great man.
    RIP Walter Smith 🧡🖤

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard says they will defend the Premiership title with their lives as he looks ahead to the new season.

The Ibrox side won their first league trophy in a decade after storming to success last campaign.

They finished the season with a 25 point gap over Celtic and ended their hopes of winning 10 in a row.

Gerrard says he's feeling good about the year ahead and is challenging his players to recreate their success.

He told Rangers' official souvenir magazine: "I feel really optimistic and excited about the future at Rangers".

"I want us to defend this championship with our lives and also attack 2021/22 with everything we have got, with hopefully all our fans back at Ibrox and at away games if the coronavirus restrictions allow for that.

"But for me, that is what being at this club is all about - it is about success, trophies and keeping that hunger and consistency moving forward.

"That hunger is either in you or it is not and I think the day when I don't feel it is in me is the day I won't get involved in football or I'll call it a day.

"It goes without saying that we have missed our supporters massively and, while we want to build on our recent league success for them, we also want to improve and go further in the domestic cup competitions while striving to be better in Europe.

"So there is much to play for next season and with new faces in our squad there is no reason why we can't go into it with great optimism, excitement and belief."

Rangers kick off their Premiership campaign at home to Livingston on July 31 when they'll unfurl the league flag.

"The pressure was on us to bring the title back to Ibrox for so many reasons," he said.

"Aside from the fact that our city rivals were aiming for a record number of successive titles, it had been a decade since Rangers were Scottish champions, which was far too long.

"As with every season, what was so important for us in 2020/21 was that we always looked ahead to the next game, never beyond that.

"At this club the demands and expectations are that you need to win week in week out, so not for one second can you take your eye off the ball.

"Over the past 12 months I think we, as a group, coped with the pressure very well and the players rose to the challenges put in front of them.

"When we beat St Mirren at Ibrox on March 6, a result which put us so close to getting over the line to become champions for the 55th time, every player and member of staff rightly enjoyed it and got lost in the moment - I did as well.

"The scenes at the stadium with the supporters will go to the grave with me, as will the celebrations at the training ground the next day when Celtic could only draw at Tannadice and we were officially crowned as champions.

"To finish the campaign with a 4-0 win over Aberdeen at home before we got our hands on the trophy was the icing on the cake and it was one of the best and proudest days of my football career."

I've seen a few of these type of threads pop up recently but I've never commented in them simply because I don't think it's possible for me to adequately put into words that are capable of expressing the overwhelming joy that this season has meant to me.
Being 66yrs old I've seen everything following this great institution, all the highs and all of the lows but I can honestly say that winning the league this season has been the pinnacle for me, there has never been anything in our clubs illustrious history to compare with the journey we have overcome in the last decade, there are simply no words that can justify explaining the pride I feel at this momentous point in our history and make no mistake this is a momentous achievement.
At the start of the season I did think that we could mount a serious challenge but if I'm being honest I had a feeling that we might just not have enough, but as November progressed into December I couldn't believe what I was witnessing and I thought to myself if we can get through January unscathed I'm going to allow myself to believe, but when February arrived I was still a bag of nerves, [we'd seen it all before]
When the day finally arrived against St Mirren watching the scenes outside Ibrox that's when it hit me, watching our support genuinely brought tears to my eyes I was a blubbering mess, lots of thoughts were racing through my mind, thinking of my brother and brother-in-law and all my friends back home and what they've had to put up with these last 10yrs, it was bad enough watching it unfold from 6000 miles away, I can't begin to imagine what it was like for you guys in the thick of it, I thought of all the young supporters who would probably be to young to remember fully what it was like to see us win something, and then to see the Gaffer and the players celebrate in the dressing room was just yeeeeesssss.
I'd also like to take a moment to thank Dave King and all the other members of the board for sticking with it and putting their hands in their pockets and for getting our club back into relatively calm waters, only you will know how close it came to disaster
I'm not going to get into the laughter that lot gave us this season, fuck them it's not about them, it's all about The Rangers.

Man U could hit a stage, if they keep spending big, of too many chiefs not enough indians. Imagine all of the egos been led by the biggest ego of all, a few bad results could totally shatter and derail that team.
