I have to say my opinion of Bates has changed. When Pedro brought him in last season I thought he was a bomb scare but the bomb never went off. This year he has improved again although this distribution is still a bit suspect. He is our best centre half by a mile and importantly releases M cCrorie to play in midfield.

And his bravery ???
