  1. My opinion is we can only use it against celtic. For instance, I don't buy the talk from Ally on sky today that this was always going to happen. I think this squad is good enough to finish 2nd and perhaps challenge. I don't think you can blame the lack of investment on the draws with Kilmarnock, Partick etc. That goes down to poor performances on the day. We pay the 2nd highest wage bill and if we're getting value for money we should be beating every other team. We dominated Aberdeen but poor play in the final third and a defensive error cost us points. However in terms of finishing first I think this team has reached its ceiling. And by that I mean last year's team (most of whom played on Sunday). With that team I think the only way we we'd beat celtic would be in a close game like the semi-final last year. I couldn't see us battering them 3,4,5 nil. I'm not sure what our potential is if we have everyone fit (Rossiter, Wilson) or everyone on form (McKay, Waghorn) but certainly based on the two old firm performances so far I think upgrades are required all over the pitch in order to get to where we want to be.

  2. He would have to do a similar thing he did when he took over from Le Guen. Go to a 4-5-1 and play defensive because these players and the defence particularly aren't good enough for where we want to be. Plus he wouldn't get the money he got last time to improve the team and buy Mendes, Thomson, Cuellar etc.

Did he not try something similar to this at Easter Road last season and changed back to 4-3-3 during the first half?

No he changed at the 60 minute mark when he made the double sub. I remember that game and we started off poorly but he kept the formation until we were all over them at the start of the second half and then he decided to change it.

What annoys me is the constant demand to play the ball wide, it's incredibly predictable and slows our game down.

What's wrong with a more direct (on the ground not big hoofs up the park) style of play?

Get on top of the CH and force him to turn.

Everytime someone gets the ball in between the lines or in the final third their first thought is to go sideways or back. There is no urgency or ruthlessness to penetrate/play the killer pass.

    Gilks? FS! ?

This is nothing to do with Foderingham. I am a huge fan of his and believe he has been our best player this season. But Gilks is the league cup keeper and he hasn't made any mistakes so I think he deserves to keep his place. I would understand and not have a problem if Wes played. I know this is a huge game but what was the point in buying Gilks if he can't play in these games. If Wes got injured he would have to play.

Senderos and Wilson were good today.

Although Senderos was panicking whenever he has the ball, needs to learn to calm the fuck down

Funny how two people can see it completely differently. I thought he was completely calm and composed on the ball. Didn't think he looked flustered at all. Kept it simple but moved the ball very quickly which helped to start the rhythm of our play.

  7. Feel those saying he flops about are being quite harsh. The Aberdeen defenders went through the back of him a fair few times including a couple of elbows to the head. The only thing I would say is he needs to stop getting tangled up on the ground/when he's getting up and the booking he picked up was needless and stupid.

What concerns me is that when any of the so called attacking players receive the ball they usually have their back to goal which automatically slows us down.

Happens with the midfield too. Sometimes they just run straight at the defence or goalkeeper when they have the ball so there's no option but to pass it straight back to them

to be honest I have never been a great fan of wingers in the modern game. I prefer a front two that play off one another and work in partnership with the wing backs and midfield providing the width. i think wingers are a luxury in the modern game.

Normally you could say or you'd expect us to try something different given how ineffective the wingers have been. Maybe a 4-4-2 diamond so you have the midfield 3, McKay in the ten and Waghorn/Garner up front. I feel like that plays to those players' strengths. However we know the situation with MW and the current formation.

  10. I thought we were at our best last season when our wingers were driving at players and beating them. That seems to have stopped now and they often pass inside or dribble inside slowing the game down. Not only are the players not performing but we also seem to have a lack of quality options out there at the moment:

Mckay- not been performing recently and I have seen a lot of calls today for him to be moved centrally into the number 10 position.

Waghorn- I was a big advocate of him playing wide right last season and starting this season because he used to go breeze past players quite easily and had a good burst of pace. However that seems to have disappeared and I can't actually remember the last time he dribbled past someone. Add to that more calls for him to start centrally after his hat-trick last week.

Forrester- another option on the wing but I actually prefer him in one of the 3 midfield slots.

Miller- to me he can't play out wide. Doesn't have the legs anymore and fast paced dribbling attributes we need.

Dodoo- manager seems to think he is a central striker.

O'Halloran- lots of pace but no footballing brain. If he had Miller or Forrester's brain we'd have some player. He doesn't seem to link up well with Tavernier either. Hard to say whether a run of games would do him good but doesn't look like he's going to get it.

I've gone through all the options there. Thoughts? Which two would you pick?

2nd person to tell me that today and no one's explained what they mean. We easily had more of the ball, especially in midfield.

The 2 goals never even came from being 'ran over in midfield' either.

Today we constantly had a spare man in midfield. We actually to work the ball out of defence very well and quite often we found Holt or Forrester in lots of space. It was once we got into the final third that the problems surfaced.

  12. Everyone criticises when the defence makes mistakes but we are doing nothing going forward. We are so slow, soft and predictable in the final third and we've been like that in nearly every game. We doing nothing special around the box and half the time I don't even think we look like scoring. Nobody wants to take the ball and do something special to grab the game by the scruff of the neck. Today the only clear cut chances I would say we had from open play were Waghorn's and Holt's. We create nowhere near the amount of chances we should for the possession we have.

  13. I like him. He's a nuisance and ruffles up the opposition. Help the ball up well today and won us a lot of fouls. He got hit in the back today a few times today so I don't blame him for going down. I like him being aggressive but the booking was stupid. He could also stop getting tangled up on the ground. I don't want him to lose that side of his game but also don't want it to come to the point where he's a liability. He was unlucky with the header and probably should've done better with the chance he fluffed. Still don't think they were easy chances. And I don't think we've created enough easy chances for him for us to tell if he's the goalscorer we bought him to be.

  14. The 4-3-3 is working I think. We managed to play the ball very well up until the final third Aberdeen tried to press a little at times but we just passed it round them. Also, quite often we were able to find Holt or Forrester as the spare man in lots of space. It's the final third that's the issue. We are so static in the around and on the edge of the box. We are getting very little from our wide players. I thought we were at our best last season when we had the likes of Mckay and Oduwa running past players but we don't seem to do that now. Everything is so slow and we make too many side-ways passes. I was an advocate of Waghorn playing on the right last season because he used to breeze by players so easily and he had a real burst of pace but I can't remember the last time I saw him go past someone.

and his wee circle-jerk email fan group.

Secured regime change with not a thought that we might actually need some cash to bankroll the bloody thing.

I hope their blazers and freebies were worth it.

We have the second highest wage bill in the league. Do you not think the players and team we have at the moment should be able to beat Hamilton, Kilmarnock, Ross County and Aberdeen?

It is the same issue week after week and that is we miss chances. Aberdeen's goals today don't matter if we take our chances. Waggy Garner Miller MOH and dodoo ain't reliable enough or good enough.

board need to back the manager and he will sort those issues.

You can't just say 'Aberdeen goals today don't matter if we don't take our chances', Kirk.

They put the ball in the net, we didn't.

What clear cut chances did we actually create? We don't do nearly enough with the ball. We are soft in the final third. Garner had a couple and Holt had one but the only one I'd describe as a bad miss was Waghorn's.
