UEFA Champions League Qualifiers

Recommended Posts

Im currently trying to work out exactly what Celtic will have to face in the new qualifying for the Champs League.

Taken from the UEFA website.

• Best-placed path: The third-placed side from the sixth-ranked member association, plus the runners-up from the associations ranked 7 to 15, start the competition in the third qualifying round. The winners of these five ties progress to the play-off round, where they are joined by the fourth-placed sides from the associations ranked 1 to 3 and the third-placed teams from the associations ranked 4 and 5. The victorious teams from the five play-off ties qualify for the UEFA Champions League group stage.

• Teams from the Champions Path and the Best-Placed Path cannot meet in UEFA Champions League qualifying.

• The losing team from each of the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round ties will go into the UEFA Europa League play-offs.

• The losing team from each of the UEFA Champions League play-off ties will go into the UEFA Europa League group stage.

Teams involved in the best place third qualifying round are the following.

(* = seeded, only three are seeded as theres still two spots being played for.)

Celtic FC*

Shaktar Donetsk*

Sporting CP*

FC Twente (guaranteed unseeded)

Dynamo Moscow (guaranteed unseeded)

Anderlecht

Romanian Team (Unirea, Dinamo Bucharest or Timişoara (unlikely))

Turkish Team (Beşiktaş, Sivasspor or Trabzonspor)

Greek Team (Panathinaikos or AEK Athens (unlikely))

Czech Team (Sparta Prague or Slovan Liberec)

Therefore the bolded teams are the ones Celtic could possibly play in the 3rd qualifying round.

If Celtic get past the home/away ties then they go onto the best placed playoff rounds. They will therefore possibly play any winner of the other 4 games in the third round, or the following teams.

Arsenal

Stuttgart

Lyon

Spanish Team (Atlético Madrid or Villareal)

Italian Team (Fiorentina or Genoa (very unlikely))

If they get dumped out on any of these two ties, then they go into the Europa League.

At looks pritty tough

Aye it will be very hard, apparently FC Twente and Dynamo Moscow are guaranteed unseeded for the 3rd round, both very hard teams to play and Celtic have a 2/5th chance of getting them (tu)

Just got the info that Celtic will be UNSEEDED for the play-offs.

:gerbad: :gerbad: :gerbad:

THey will be seeded for the first section of their qualifying campaign....

the phase where Arsenal etc join becomes and open draw with no seedings :)

I know mate but I think thats wrong....im going against a proven stats thing I know.

I'm fairly convinced it's an Open Draw when Arsenal etc join, as many pundits have discussed over the following weeks!

If thats true then they really are screwed!
