Hibernian 0 vs. 1 Rangers<b style="">

<br style=""> <br style=""> </b>

Come On Over To My Place, the party’s only beginning!!

Rangers came into the game knowing that one win out of the last four games would be enough to clinch an amazing 53 title but they weren’t looking to the last three. This one was the one they were looking for. Let’s get this wrapped up and out of the way and that’s exactly what Rangers and Walter got.

A blow to the team was the absence of Bougherra and Wilson from the squad but the ever reliable McCulloch was on hand to step up to the plate and play alongside Weir. Boyd also didn’t find himself on the team sheet with Lafferty partnering Miller up front and, again, that proved to be a masterstroke by Smith who watched as the two combined to create chances and ultimately a fabulous goal in the 17th minute. Miller flicked it forward and Lafferty took the ball really well and used his pace and strength to force through the Hibs back line before burying the ball in the bottom corner. I don’t reckon we’ll ever be sick of seeing the Robotic celebration!

The rest of the half saw typical tactics come into play as Rangers let Hibs come onto them and hit on the counter and a couple more chances were squandered to put the game to bed and so the first half ended with Rangers in the driving seat.

The second half was just crying out for a goal so the party could really begin but, like Rangers for most of the season, they kept us waiting till the final whistle. It was a bit of a graft as we sat back and contained Hibs and looked to finish off with pace up top but it really wasn’t happening and it was a bit of a siege at the death but Rangers resilience was once more just too much for the opposition and the celebrations could start in earnest.

With the external and internal pressures on the side it really makes this title all the sweeter and everybody at the club deserves huge credit for guiding the club to glory.

53 AND COUNTING!!!

<b style="">RM’s verdict:

<br style=""> <br style=""> </b>

McGregor: - 7 A terrific late save off Riordan capped a good performance and another clean sheet.

Whittaker: -. 6 His usual forays forward helped ease some pressure on the back line.

McCulloch: - 7 Stepped into another role and never ever lets the club down.

Weir: - 7 Could stroll through another couple of seasons in the SPL. Has played EVERY minute of SPL games this season, amazing.

Papac: - 7 Had a better game after a shaky time. Covers in well when the centre backs get dragged out.

Davis: - 5 Quieter game from the wee man but his contribution to the team over the season was immense.

Edu: - 5 Good energy but sloppy in possession today. Typified the team performance as a whole.

Thomson: - 6 Had the tenacity wiped out of him early doors as he received a nothing booking. Still got into decent forward positions.

Naismith: - 5 Started brightly but faded badly. Shows signs of being a good player for us but needs to get more consistent.

Lafferty: - 8 The villain turned hero. Played through the middle, he shows what he can do. Took the goal really well.

Miller: - 6 A lot of effort but the final balls just weren’t coming off today.
