This is a picture of Barskimming Road around the time.

The football field is to the right of the horse and cart.

I'm gonna look into this a bit more to see if I can come up with any interesting facts, though I've never done anything like this before.

The houses in the picture still stand to this day.

I used to live in the one 2nd from the top of the street, by the bend in the road.

Interesting........................................

The picture above, taken around the time of the Rangers' visit to the village for a Scottish Cup tie, is the street to the left of the football fields, which are still there today.

However, according to the information on this link, the game was actually played at Connel Park, which is now the site of a housing scheme.

That is so often the case, damn town planners.

Great story emerging though.

Interesting point here:-

Eleven Ayrshire teams have reached the quarter-finals - Kilmarnock (34), Ayr United (12), Annbank, Ayr Parkhouse & Kilmarnock Athletic all twice and Ayr Thistle, Beith, Hurlford, Kilbirnie, Mauchline & Stevenston United all once. Mauchline actually reached the last six.

The Rangers team in 1876 would have travelled to Mauchline by train, most likely from the station at Bridge Street which is long gone.

St.Enoch station in Glasgow also opened in 1876.

Here's Mauchline Station back in the day:

And here's the long gone Bridge Street train station in Glasgow where the Rangers would have left from in 1876 to travel to Mauchline.

Here's the location of the station today.

As said previously the city planners should have been shot , what a magnificent building, what a loss to Glasgow.

How many times has this been the case Ian? So many once great places in Glasgow are now gone. It's a shame.
