Conditions at Cheltenham yesterday were very testing, and although the course may dry out somewhat, the Racing Post Handicap Hurdle (2.50) still looks a race where we should be looking for a soft-ground, battling type, preferably with course form in big-field handicaps, rather than a flashy, potentially well-handicapped one. Step forward BOTHY, who has become something of a forgotten horse after missing the whole of last season with a leg injury. He shaped very well on ground that would have been much quicker than ideal when a good second at Wetherby last time, and whilst that form would be some way short of what is required here, especially having been raised 5lb for that run, a big field on soft ground here can prove a great leveller. Bothy was runner-up to Menorah, the pair clear, in this race two years ago, and again showed his liking for Cheltenham when runner-up in the 2011 Coral Cup on ground quicker than ideal; he was also beaten only a short head in the Totesport Trophy that year. It's worth remembering that although he seems to have been around for a while, he is still just a six-year-old and has finished out of the first two only twice in his nine hurdle starts; he goes well for Danny Cook and has conditions very much in his favour, so he certainly looks overpriced this morning.

Into 12s now.
