mrwin 393 Posted November 18, 2012 Share Posted November 18, 2012 Conditions at Cheltenham yesterday were very testing, and although the course may dry out somewhat, the Racing Post Handicap Hurdle (2.50) still looks a race where we should be looking for a soft-ground, battling type, preferably with course form in big-field handicaps, rather than a flashy, potentially well-handicapped one. Step forward BOTHY, who has become something of a forgotten horse after missing the whole of last season with a leg injury. He shaped very well on ground that would have been much quicker than ideal when a good second at Wetherby last time, and whilst that form would be some way short of what is required here, especially having been raised 5lb for that run, a big field on soft ground here can prove a great leveller. Bothy was runner-up to Menorah, the pair clear, in this race two years ago, and again showed his liking for Cheltenham when runner-up in the 2011 Coral Cup on ground quicker than ideal; he was also beaten only a short head in the Totesport Trophy that year. It's worth remembering that although he seems to have been around for a while, he is still just a six-year-old and has finished out of the first two only twice in his nine hurdle starts; he goes well for Danny Cook and has conditions very much in his favour, so he certainly looks overpriced this morning.
