Walter's Role (and Ian Hart) - What a Non-exec does

Seen quite a few people asking what an Non-exec does and a lot of speculation about what Walter and Ian Hart might do so here is what a Non-exec does and my speculation on how that will be applied at Rangers:

for those that want to know the role of a non- eXec. ....

Basically all directors carry equal responsibility for the running and corporate governance of a club. So a director role in any company is not to be taken lightly either as an appointment nor to join!

Executive directors ( In general) take responsibility for the day to day running of a company as well as their director roles a non- exec usually is there to provide experience and act to question / help guide decisions based on that experience. Without being to pedantic the non- exec carries the can just as much as an exec if things go wrong so should fully understand what the company is up to!

Working as a board the Execs and Non-execs set the strategy (i.e.do the planning) for the company and the execs execute the plan.

In rangers case having two rangers men on the board means less chance of shite happening that is to the detriment to the club or fans and from a fans perspective what better 2 men than Walter and Ian hart!

Some specifics where Walter and Hart will likely apply their brains:

What is the 'strategy' for youth development with in the club and Stragegy of Club Development (Home grown players, youth tie ups with other countries, buy in young talent, buy in emerging market talent etc. )

What sort of budget should be allocated to squads (i.e.ratios between development / first team) and this has to be aligned with income and other spend (to be fiscally sound)

What are realistic football targets for the Club. (In terms of competition performance)

(IF !!?? ) a manager needs replaced they would aid in both the decision to release a manager and in selection of new manager.

What they wont be doing is actual picking players, scouting, or other day to day decisions.

I hope this helps.
