Someone in a thread was talking about Smith, possibly not playing again etc, can't remember which one.

Anyway, Smith had a Hernia operation at the end of the season, prior to this he had just started light training, but due to the operation he is taking an extended break and is not ready to return to training.

Either Broadfoot or Papac will start at left back until Smith is ready again, but there are no plans for him leaving the club.

Does this mean no move for Konchesky or Rat?

I think because Papac turned down a possible move away, because he wanted to fight for a place, then that will be the case.

The Daily Mail said today that Smith had resumed light training at the end of last season and was joining the full squad today.

There was some bout as to whether he may need to go back for another operation although he hoped it wouldn't come to that......

I think, after he resumed light training, he then had a hernia operation and that has put him back a bit.

I might be wrong about the timings of the different ops etc though.
