minstral 5,375
just reading some of the posts about playing in the scottish league is holding us back, i would like your views on where you think our club will be in the next 10 to 20 years. will we just be a club who will have to sell our best players to keep our debt down, or will murray park produce good young players to keep us at the top and stop us having to buy as many players. wil scottish football end up like the irish league due to lack of money, or will sky come back in and get the tv rights, or will there be a european league. do you think that standing areas will ever return in a controlled way which might help the atmosphere which seem to have gone apart from big games. do you think that there will have to be a cap on players wages which are way out of control. do you think the new age fans will be as keen to hold on to our traditions, like british scottish and protestant which most of us older bears cherish or will they think that they should be left in the past. BlueSuedeSambas 53,918
Personally I think we should and will end up like another Lyon or Ajax. We wont be playing in the best league but our facilities will mean that we will continue to bring through young talented players who we then look sell on for a massive profit. Hutton IMO is the first example of this and possibly in the future guys like Lennon, Furman and Fleck will follow suit. This in turn will give us the financial windfall to continue to build sides who are capable of winning leagues and challenging in Europe, but it will also secure the finacial future of the club. It's true to say that it's not the Rangers way, but until the money in the Premiership blows up in their clubs faces, which it will there is no way we can compete with them financially and we haev to find a strategy to compensate for this. However fro this to be successful we have to make sure that our youngsters are being given the correct opportunities to develop and at the moment that is not happening. Stardog 11
We already have a wage cap. That's why we couldn't sign Samaras or Brown and maybe that Italian guy. We would've had them all if we didn't have the wage cap in place. Our wages are not out of control. Selling guys like Hutton will help the club in the long run. More players will come through that are even better. Selling youngsters doesn't = failure. Keeping them doesn't = success. It's not as black and white as that. Just look at Ajax. Sold Bergkamp, Overmars, Davids, De Boers, Reiziger, Van Der Sar etc. You can sell these players and still be successful, especially in our diddy league.
