nvager 498
Rangers reward fans with Uefa Cup tickets By Roddy Forsyth Last Updated: 12:59am GMT 23/03/2008 Have your say Read comments In an unprecedented gesture of solidarity with their supporters, Rangers have bought the entire allocation of match tickets for the away leg of their Uefa Cup tie with Sporting Lisbon in Portugal on April 10 and will distribute them free to travelling fans, based on their history of following the club. The 2,500 tickets cost £50,000 and the Ibrox chief executive, Martin Bain, said: "This is a big thank you to our supporters who have shown extraordinary commitment this season. # Scottish fans' forum "We cannot rely on TV revenue as much as other clubs throughout Europe so we have depended heavily on ongoing support from our fans." Rangers reward fans with Uefa Cup tickets Having a party: Rangers fans will welcome their free tickets Some of the bounty from Rangers' European success will be invested in the squad during the summer, according to Sir David Murray, the chairman. He also indicated progress has been made on a £700 million scheme to redevelop Ibrox - and take the capacity up to a 70,000. Yesterday's home game against Hibernian was Rangers' 50th match of the season and vital to their hopes of establishing a commanding lead over Celtic - who play Gretna at Livingston today before they visit Ibrox next Saturday. There was, once again, no start for Kris Boyd, despite his heroics against Dundee United in last Sunday's CIS Insurance Cup final and his equaliser in the Scottish Cup quarter-final against Partick Thistle on Wednesday to force a replay. Jean Claude Darcheville got the nod and gave Rangers the lead five minutes before the break in a tight, tactical game when he gathered a delightful pass from Sasa Papac and struck a fierce shot across Yves Ma-Kalambay into the far corner. Darcheville, though, saw an even better opportunity blocked by the goalkeeper before Nacho Novo struck with a low drive after Chris Hogg had failed to clear a hanging cross from Steven Davis. Hibs, though, shredded nerves when Dean Shiels hit the crossbar then beat goalkeeper Allan McGregor to the rebound in the final minute.

ScotBear 144
Good news I think. No doubt about it It's a unique gesture to make in modern day football and a good PR move by the club also. Very positive news. Good news for season ticket holders. Good news for families (family of 4 could save as much as around £186 next season, a very substantial saving). Good news for those fantastic away fans that have travelled abroad all season. Good news for everyone that the redevelopment plans are moving along nicely. Good news for everyonoe that Walter has been promised a large transfer budget for next season. Well done Sir David
rangersross 6,575
Hoped to hear more about the redevelopment but as long as its on target we have something major to look forward too, and with this plan to get new young fans through the turnstiles we'll no doubt be filling our 70,000 seats easily

No disrespect to families as they are an important part of the fanbase but many kids are a pain in the arse at games. Up and down to the stalls, I want this Dad. Doubtless swearing will be banned too.
Coopermania 1
Its a nice gesture to the fans. Not many clubs, if any have done this before to my knowledge.

Doubtless swearing will be banned too. It puts me off a bit when I take my kids to the game and it would make sense to have all the wee brats together. FFS could you imagine the shreeks and screaming, christ it'd sound like a cup game at Pittodrie.

Ted E Bayer 490
70,000 stadia excites me. To jump ahead of the manks on all fronts is good news. Who knows if they'll increase for the commonwealth games in 2014 I just like that idea that we leap frog the fuckers.
