Back to Belgium for Buffell possibly ?

Recommended Posts

While Rangers continue a recruitment drive, there is also a need to trim fringe players

from their squad — with Belgian club Germinal Beerschot now offering Thomas Buffel the chance of a return to his homeland.

The Antwerp-based outfit are prepared to make Buffel, signed from Feyenoord three

years ago, their highest-paid player.

But that would still represent a sharp cut on the reputed £16,000 per week he currently earns at Ibrox.

The 27-year-old has 12 months left on his contract but has been told he can leave

Rangers for free.

"Germinal are interested but I need to speak to Thomas and see how keen he is on a return to Belgium," said agent Kees Ploegsma.

"Other Belgian clubs could be interested, as well as teams in France and Germany, so I don’t think Thomas will be making a decision within the next week."

Disnae look if he's gonna make the A list ! :sherlock:

I am a fan of Buffell

He scores goals and creates chances

Think he is real quality (when fit) and is the player we need in the midfield on European nights!

None of this packed midfield with Daily and Hemdani defensive nonsense!

Another ridiculous piece of negotiating from our worthless CEO. A quality international player who has that something a bit different, he can actually open up defences with a clever pass, and makes great off the ball runs. An intelligent footballer. The fact that he does not fit into Walters run run run team does not mean he has no value.

Any decent player with 1 year to go on his contract should be commanding a fee of around £1M. Buffel should be in this category. There will be plenty of teams in Germany, maybe even Holland, with £1M to spend on a quality internationalist.

And good luck to him wherever he ends up.

Unfortunately, other clubs know of the situation with Buffel - ie he's on a high wage and RFC don't want to pay the clause fee so are trying to move him on.

As such, not many clubs will be prepared to pay a premium for him when they know we're so eager to move him on.

The whole Buffel episode has been a bizarre one. Undoubtedly a decent player but questions always remained about his fitness, commitment and contractual situation. Whatever has happened we're paying circa £15K p/week for someone who contributes nil.

As such, the quicker we move him on the better and going by the standard of club interested, we're not going to get much of a fee anyway.

Frankie, I understand that of course. But when you are starting with the position as we are that we have decalred he can go for free, you can guarantee that tells other clubs that we will pay him off to make up his wages in order for them to pay him less than he is on now. If yous tart with the position that we want £1M and that we are happy for him to stay, we might not get a fee in the end, but we wont pay him off either. It just seems that we get shafted every time in the transfer market, either buying or selling, and I wonder how much of that is down to the fact that our CEO's experience of business negotiations has previously centred around the price of a keg of beer.
