BRIAN LAUDRUP: Smith facing window pain

Recommended Posts

BRIAN LAUDRUP reckons the opening of the transfer window will bring Walter Smith a month of frustration The Ibrox boss will attempt to make way for some much-needed new blood to help rekindle his side's faltering attempt to stop Celtic making it four SPL titles on the bounce.

The Gers wing legend said: "The transfer window is a problem for Walter in that he has so many players he will want to move on in what is a limited time-span.

"These boys are not getting regular game time and are not in the limelight and that is a big problem. It is hard for teams who may be interested in these players to monitor their form if they are playing mainly reserve football.

"On top of that, players like Chris Burke, Charlie Adam and DaMarcus Beasley will all be on good money and anything after Rangers is a step down.

"The same will be true for Brahim Hemdani, but I think it will be easier for Rangers to get him off the wage bill as he has a pedigree in Europe, with French sides likely to be attracted to him.

"But to get players to leave in mid-season and go and try and make it elsewhere is always going to be tough as the easier option for the player is to sit tight until the end of the campaign and pick up his wages.

"This is going to be a big challenge for Walter as it would appear that Rangers cannot afford to sign anyone until they offload some current players."
