Strange one this, either they've decided he's pump after watching him in training, or theres something dodgy behind the scenes and they want rid.

Portsmouth spent ages trying to get this guy only a month ago!

Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp has admitted David Nugent could leave after starting only two league games following a £6m move from Preston.

Nugent, 22, scored his first goal for Pompey in the 3-0 win against Leeds in the Carling Cup on Tuesday.

But Redknapp confirmed he could be on the move, with Derby interested.

He said: "Sometimes when you are trying to raise money you have to sell someone you don't really want to sell. That could be David but it could be others."

Redknapp added: "What we need is somebody who can get us 15 to 20 goals a season and if we can do some good business and improve the team we will."

Pompey signed Nugent for £6m in July from Preston, but after starting the first two games of the season, he was on the bench for the last two.

Nugent is now a target for Derby where he would link up with Billy Davies, his former boss at Preston.

Redknapp said: "He's a young player and obviously he wants to play but at the moment Kanu has been absolutely brilliant, John Utaka's a threat and Benjani does well.

Newspaper reports suggest Redknapp wants to sign £12m-rated Bolton striker Nicolas Anelka - but he may have to sell before he buys.

He can't make the step up just now, no point letting him rot away on the bench when Kanu and Utaka are always going to be first choice. Sell him to somebody he can maybe do a job for, lets him get his career going without it stalling too much and gives them money to spend on other players. Smart move for both of them.

Redknapp with a real cock up here.

He basically signed him on the strength of that amazing goal in the FA cup.

Nugent is nowhere NEAR the next big thing.

To use his age against him is BS - I think Rooney and Ronaldo are younger than he is. He's basically just not very good and an appalling symbol of the embarrassing overspending and inflated worth of players in England.

The fact Harry's saying they need a 20 goal a season scorer is basically saying Nugent isn't it.
