Responding to claims he was guilty of hyping things up, he said: “The thing you have to understand is when we took over at Ibrox we immediately realised we had one of the biggest teams in the world in our hands. Everything I did at Rangers was with that in mind. So when I am selling Rangers to investors and commercial partners, I’m going to talk in terms of potential. That’s what I do; I’m a salesman.” From my point of view I have no problem with someone hyping up the Rangers. And I do know that Green did have solid support from top English clubs with reference to Rangers playing down south. For political reasons those clubs could only at this stage offer this in private. My feeling is that if Charles Green does come back there are a few scores he will feel he has to settle. Having said that, he is keenly aware that the club needs stability after the recent boardroom wars. As Green knows only too well, it’s great to be able to kick ass. The trick is in knowing whose as to kick. And when the time for kicking ass is over. “Rangers fans know I will stick up for the club and for them,” Green told me. “But there’s more to me than that.” I know Big Chuck is desperate to get the opportunity to show this and contribute more to the Rangers cause.We’ll have to wait and see if he gets that opportunity.
