  1. SKY will be realising that they're getting more viewers for our SFL3 matches than for any SPL matches. They'll get even more viewers as we work our way through the English leagues. There are plenty of bears in England who would form our "travelling" support for midweek fixtures in Bristol or Brighton. For those who can't travel so far or who can't get tickets, we could still play a B team in the SFL, making sure that our new friends there will still have a boost to their income through increased gates, even if there's no significant TV deal. If we refuse to rejoin the SPL and take the English route, that would probably require SFA sanction, but such an arrangement could be supported by the SFL clubs through their SFA votes.
  2. My son's first game was against PSG towards the end of the Advocaat era. He said that the football against East Fife and East Stirling was the best he's seen Rangers play. Certainly, we have a chance to develop a style of play that we've not seen since the days of Advocaat. As fans, we need to be patient and accept that we won't win every game when we're trying to bring in youngsters with the right style. So far, so good.
  3. In the 24 years we've been together, my wife has been to 3 games. My 12 year old daughter has been to 2. Now, they're both wanting to come to Ibrox with me and my boys. The sense of adventure has captured their imagination.
  4. If we're drawn against C****c in the League Cup and they're trying to promote their coverage of the game, you can bet that they'll quite happily go on about the Old Firm rivalry going back to the 19th Century. Then, the next Saturday, it'll be back to New Rangers.
  5. Very reminiscent of pre-season friendlies or early-round League Cup ties of previous years. Yes, we've looked sloppy at times, but most of our opponents are playing the biggest match of their careers. Getting a couple of hours of competitive football, particularly for the likes of Black, will do us no harm at all. Tactically, we may look a bit inflexible, but our play will improve as we get sharper and some of the kids grow in confidence. Also, the width of the pitch at Ibrox will be a big advantage this season - there's barely 10 yards between the touchline and the box at Glebe Park.
  6. How often in the past, following a bizarre SFA ruling, have we been told "The clubs ARE the SFA. The SFA is merely here to implement the decisions of its members." If the clubs stay strong and continue to vote against any unsatisfactory proposals, they'll get the message eventually. I reckon that there will be a few more attempts before the start of the season to force a vote on amended plans. All in the name of "sporting integrity" of course.
  7. I have given and take abuse for nearly 40 years and hope to be fit enough to do so for another 40. My point was really about finance. Considering the cost of taking a family to football these days, I cannot afford 3 season tickets, travel and tickets for away games in Scotland and the occasional European trip. My choice was to stop giving money to teams who have only survived by hanging on to our coat-tails, yet still despise our very existence. Surely, our last visit to Lisbon was better than a dozen away games in the SPL?
  8. Even when the mhedia refer to the "sick song", they focus on him dying in his sleep, not to the proposed method of his execution by terrorists.
  9. My 100% away boycott started 4 years ago. Having been to most away games with my two boys, we were at Pittodrie for the last game and my 10 year old asked "Why do all the other fans hate us?" That night, I decided to waste no more money on our enemies. Three tickets plus travel and food would set us back about £100 each away game (or more if there were no child prices). We could save all that money and finance a trip to an away game in Europe each season, something that would be far more memorable than travelling around Scotland to be abused. Four years on, I haven't given a penny to another SPL club or to their local economies. I still have some way to go, though, to catch up with my Dad who has boycotted Parkhead for more than 40 years on the basis that he refused to give them any money whatsoever, even in the days when you just handed over a few coins at the turnstile.
  10. Bo Anderson's second goal to clinch victory in the 1997 New Year derby. Best ever feeling at a football match - that was the moment that nine in a row stopped being a dream and became a reality.
  11. Loved his use of the phrase "We are the victims" rather than "My clients are the victims."
  12. I used to be fairly apathetic towards them. As long as Rangers were doing well, they were an irrelevance. Sometimes, I'd want them to win, especially against Aberdeen in the 80's. If they did well in Europe, I'd consider it good for the coefficient. I even felt a touch of sympathy for my Celtic supporting cousins when they lost in Seville. However, my eyes were opened in 2008 when I realised how cynical and manipulative they could be. Using Phil O'Donnell's death to postpone a match when it suited them; making sure they played a few days after Tommy Burns died because it suited them; the mythical Far East tour! Ever since, I've wanted them to be crushed and humiliated at every opportunity, especially in Europe. The introduction of Lennon as their manager has merely enhanced that view. They campaign against our traditional songs, while they get away with greater extremism. The Celtic board are happy to have Lennon there as it prevents scrutiny of their inadequacies - any time there's a problem, they can play the victim card. The only good thing about this awful season is that it will lull them into a false sense of security and keep their hopeless manager in place for another couple of seasons.
  13. This match was the week before my wedding. It just about wrote my speech for me, giving me loads of material for a "mixed" audience. The first game I had taken my then girlfriend to was the league decider against Hearts in 89. We were married with two kids before we relinquished the title again.
