That's all. Once we went a goal down

A blind man could see we started losing a bit of control in midfield in that 2nd half and Gerrard didn't change a thing

McCrorie should have been on before they scored we were taking absolutely unnecessary risks by continuing to throw men forward when Hibs showed no signs of wanting to go forward

It always takes us losing a goal to make a change. Same thing happened in the league cup semi-final and a couple of other league games.

Why is Middleton not on the bench though? We had 3 central midfielders. Kent had an off night and the service from Candeias was shocking. I understand not wanting to throw another striker on when it's only 1-0 but if you've got Middleton there, at least you can try and get better service from the wide area.

Why would it be in it was about the spfl? I never mentioned Warburton either who spent less money than both Pedro and McGregor for a similar record.

Because a lot of these players have already played 4 rounds of European qualifiers and 3 matches every other Thursday. Surely that factors in compared to playing one game a week completely rested?

  3. Poor man-management from Gerrard on this one. You could argue that Katic should always be ready to play and today’s performance won’t ever be acceptable but he dropped him for no apparent reason when he was playing extremely well and had reached a good level of consistency only to then not just be rotated for the odd game but miss the next 3 or 4. Hopefully he gets another chance and can reach the level he was playing at previously.

I hope your right. No message from the club and no goodbye message on twitter with pre season starting next week :nailbiting:

Saw it mentioned online last week that the players are not back until the 15th.

I'm not talking about hitting some form, that can happen with a new manager it's called new manager syndrome - I'm specifically talking about us vs them.

I addressed that in my reply. A lot of the same players who were beaten by them last season including a couple of heavy defeats (Fod, Tav, McCrorie, Windass, Kranjcar etc.) were part of that team that should’ve beat them away in the new year game and were by far the better team in the 2nd half.

Regardless of that result today, I think we would’ve been seeing wholesale changes in the summer so it is likely to be a different team anyway. Just a case of whether they can get a competent manager in to get the best out of the players. If it is going to be Gerrard, we’ll soon find out whether he’s capable of that.

  6. Don’t think we’re at that point. You get teams every season that look like they’re going to be relegated with no hope and a new manager comes in and completely changes things. Also look at Clarke at Kilmarnock, completely changed their mindset and got them going on a run even against the best teams.

Now I know this is against one team specifically and we’ve had quite a few thumpings. But look at the game at Christmas that we should’ve won. They had beaten us heavily last year but we were still the better team in a one-off game and if we took our chances we would’ve won. That was still with the likes of Kranjcar and Windass playing. I find it hard to fully accept the true size of the gap at the moment because I don’t think we’re giving it the best shot with what we have. We have a manager who continues to play a system where we are outmatched in midfield and in a way that leaves up completely open and exposed.

For a really credible very good quality manager that should be able to make a big difference and compete properly for the title very quickly it'll take a bit more than forking out c£1m compensation for quality of the likes of McInnes.   IMO we'd need far better and I think far better would cost a lot more.   Unaffordably more.  It all depends of course on how ambitious a board is prepared to be and the extent to which they can fund that ambition.   If its a McInnes or broad equivalent - or a continuance of Murty - then imo they'd best also be sending out a clear message to Supporters of being prepared to wait quite a few seasons before a proper title challenging side can be seen because that, imo, would the nature of the deal we'd be getting.

Agreed. Just wanted to point out I don't think they went for Murty because we couldn't afford anyone else. I think an important thing to consider in terms of investment is it's not just about needing more money, it's about spending the money we do have wisely. If you look at last summer, we spent about 4 million on 3 players (Cardoso, Pena and Herrera) which is a lot of money for this league and we're getting absolutely no value from either of them. We paid (or are going to pay) a million for Murphy. Imagine how much better the team would be if we were getting his quality from those 3 other players. It would be a good start to spend the money we do have wisely rather than just calling for more and more and frittering it away.

    "What you waiting on Dave?"

I think an answer to the question posed by the OP is that all that could be afforded after the DOF did his very recent extensive recruitment campaign was Murty.   Dave K has then effectively taken a big gamble and thrown the dice on the rest of the season in the hopes that Murty will not preside over such a catastrophic set of results to make it necessary to replace him before the end of the season.  And with the same throw of the dice the hopes that he does enough to convince the Board that he can significantly improve on it next season in which case he gets the job on a more permanent basis and saves Dave from finding yet more cash to replace him.

So the dice are still in rattling around the table for this season and it might yet be a pair of dunce-like 1s that land.   And King is waiting to see how the dice land before he acts.

I think your argument about only being able to afford Murty is made null and void by the fact we were about to spend a million on compensation for McInnes.

  9. Still feel we need to be more ruthless. You could see from the first half they were miles better than Ross County and if they wanted it, it could’ve been 3 or 4. We get to the second half and we’ve fallen off the pace, some of them are walking about and it’s like they’re happy for the game just to pass by. So frustrating as there’s signs of a really good team here and with a bit of concentrated effort and quality in the final third, they could hammer some of these teams and kill games off early.

  10. Will be disappointed for him when he’s eventually replaced. Brilliant tonight and doesn’t stop running. More than held his own in the New Year game and tonight but if we’re going to go to that next level he’ll probably have to make way.

  11. We can’t keep replacing the entire squad every summer. We’ve had to do it for the past 3. Not every player has to be replaced. Why don’t we get a manager who can get the best out of the players we currently have?

Part of the reason we have to keep replacing is because we’re spending our budget on so many players. If you’re spending 5-10 million on 10 players you’re going to get far less quality than spending 1-2 million on 3 or 4 quality players each. We should be attempting to buy a smaller number of quality players in each window so we don’t have to keep replacing them every year. May take a little longer to build an entire squad full of quality but unfortunately that’s what the current mis-management has caused.

  12. We can’t keep replacing the entire team every summer. Three straight summers we’ve had to buy double digit numbers of players. That’s why the quality is lacking. Instead of spending our money on quality rather than quantity, we’re having to buy large numbers to build a new team. Would be good to get a manager for a start who can actually improve and get the best out of our current players.

Holt isn't good enough long term. But he certainly is more effective than Pena and I agree he improved us last night.

But we seriously need to get a grip of this squad if the only option we have is Holt.

Was always going to take a few transfer windows with the number of players we had to replace.

That’s why I think guys like Walker and McLean are good value for money on a free. Upgrades on the likes of Holt and Dalcio in a 24 squad and leaves money for fees to buy first XI players.

    Absolute pish patter.

aye the board invested to the tune of 10 million but that wouldn't even buy you Patrick Roberts.

If you continuously blame the conveyor belt of managers that we are going to go through instead of the board you are on glue.

But we're 8 points behind having played them once. A Tommy Wright St Johnstone team and a Graeme Murty Rangers team managed to take points off them in a one-off game. I think the last two managers have been back more than enough to finish comfortably second which they both seem to be struggling with. I think if that was achieved then we could complain have a lack of investment to maintain the consistency over a season. But I suppose you can still trace the appointments back to the board (although Warburton did the job of getting us out the championship). The specific people responsible for hiring Caixinha should probably be fired too but I don't Caixinha will be successful here in the long-term so the board are as well admitting their mistake now and taking the time to get the right man in. I agree we can't keep changing managers but we have to stick and back one we believe will be successful. If you think that's Caixinha then I understand why you think he should stay.

Again, you miss the point. I'm not making any case for keeping him, but by all means please continue to do so if you think it helps your flawed premise.

It matters not one fuck to me wether Pedro stays or goes. It's not a personal thing. It's a first principle thing based on simple economics. The financial modelling of our club makes us also rans. Pedro or no Pedro. We are fighting it out with all the other also rans as a consequence.

Also, I have not resigned us to a mid table slug, our board have, but you just don't get it and you have resigned us to second place at best, because it fits your agenda, as opposed to adressing the root cause of our inept year on year performances due to the economic envirionment that our board holds us hostage to.

Again, second is nothing. It only makes us good losers in meeting board aspirations and that's what makes us appeasers and surrender monkeys. That's fine, but don't try to deflect and fucking constantly winge about performances on the park, with the scum giving us a good skelping. As the old saying goes, you pay peanuts you get monkeys and compared to the scum we certainly are. Just because of who we are we just pay more for the same fucking  monkeys all the other also rans have, just to add insult to injury.

Our new club logo should show an elephant smelling coffee, with we surrender emblazoned, as it couldn't be more apt

Have the board not backed the manager to finish comfortably second though? We all want to finish first but I think the last two managers have been backed more than enough to finish second, from which we can then look to progress into first. Unfortunately that's three straight summer windows where we've had to completely rebuild the squad whereas we should've been in a position where one rebuild was necessary and the other windows could be used to supplement the first XI and squad with quality acquisitions. I suppose it then comes down to the board in that they've hired the managers who've then bought poorly. But if you look at a couple of the fees they spent in the summer on individual players even though a double digit total was required, it suggests there would be money available to buy 2-3 players each window that would be capable of winning the league. We have a decent spine at the moment (GK, McCrorie, Alves, Jack, Dorrans, Morelos) so January and the summer should be used to buy quality that enhances the first XI. I also think the likes of Mclean and Walker would be good value for money as squad additions if we can get them on a free. Certainly upgrades on Holt and Dalcio for building a title winning squad.

To make it happen as quickly as possible, we need to get the next batch of signings right and I imagine that will be the DoF's responsibility.
