  1. I was thinking that, and so long as McLaughlin is happy to stay as a backup keeper, we can do worse. A new no.1 is a must for the coming season.
  2. Would imagine one keeper will move on and the other two will remain? You'd like to think McGregor will retire with the other two remaining as backup to a new number one. And Greegs will stay No.1 for the rest of the season. 41, should be retiring and still the best at the club.
  3. And he only needed to turn up for 30 / 35 minutes against Aberdeen, but by God, what a 35 minutes! Genuinely world class Gazza was, and won that game on his own.
  4. If they're good enough they'll force their way into contention. We have to get rid of this notion we have in Scotland that they shouldn't be playing first team football or ready for it until they are 22 /23. Even if he made it onto the bench he should be fighting to come on and influence the game. I like him, but it's looking like he'll have to work harder to get his chance.
  5. As i've said, i'm not a fan of steve clarke or many of that Scotland squad, but people surely can't be underplaying that result 🤣
  6. That's some result, fair play. Still can't cheer a steve clarke team though.
  7. I'm really saddened reading that. Lambie was a man i held in very high esteem. Shocking that he enabled the abuse of young footballers. There's no excusing that, and no excusing Thistle for their lack of reaction to the victim after this time. Enabling perpetrators of abuse is as heinous as the person carrying out the abuse.
  8. She comes across well does Shelley.
  9. It's not even our real national anthem, so not sure what the fuss is about. 🤔
  10. He's one of those guys where i'm a wee bit confused as to where his talent lies (and if there's any talent there). He's quite funny in Two Doors Down, but he doesn't really do all that much in it, and his wrestling's pretty rubbish. But then he comes across as an alright guy 🤣 so, confused 🤷🏻‍♂️
  11. Though he looks in better shape now than he did at times in his 2nd spell with us
  12. I think he had the attributes to be a decent enough player domestically. He wasn't ever going to be the player who was going to elevate us to another level, but I believe a better squad player to have rather than Sands and King at this stage of his career. He was raw though, and think 23 / 24 when he left us, so wasn't going to improve lots.
  13. I'm just find Goldson frustrating at times. He can be immense but then there's the side of him that at times appears to be beaten before a ball is kicked. I wasn't overly fussed if he left at the end of his contract last season. He's one of the leaders in the dressing room that has underperformed in that role (imo). I honestly don't know where i would look to be honest. I don't see the quality in Scotland that would slot into the starting lineup straight away, and premiership is too expensive a market for us to shop in. There will be good value out there, i guess we just need to find it.
  14. Goldson has these lapses in concentration in games that your top centre halves just don't have, which is frustrating as he has had games where he's been immense, but then he'll switch off and we lose a goal. Every time. Big Katic was a no frills player who i think was good enough domestically but probably a level below what we need for European games. A lot of heart and desire, which won a lot of us over. I'd rather have that than someone who thinks they're brilliant and points the finger all the time.
  15. I forgot the big man was decent with a free kick as well. We were spoiled at that time having him and Albertz who could take them, alongside Ronald DeBoer.
  16. He's quite good fun is Jimmy. Show would be completely flat without him on it. Fenners just isn't a great host.
  17. Italy seem to have been going through a transitional phase for the last 4 years now. They just don't seem to be getting the same quality of player through these days.
  18. I've been watching it again for the last couple of years and it definitely needs to be adjusted if they are able to push forward with it. The football based bits are the most enjoyable parts of the show now, the "comedy" elements just fall flat and are a bit cringy. The two sisters they've added with their drills are quite good, but i find myself fast forwarding through much of it.
  19. I would watch the Super Cooper video so many times when i was younger. Always reminds me of that song. Magic!
  20. He tried to play tactically in a league that is all about winning individual battles. He gave the opponent too much respect, a bit like the criticism Conte is currently receiving down south. He sets up not to lose rather than to take the game to the opponent. That, coupled with the players relishing being the underdog is why we had a brilliant Europa League run. I believe Gio is a good manager, just unfortunately not suited to managing in the Scottish league (still won a domestic cup that Gerrard couldn't though).
  21. And more mobility in midfield to close the gap between middle and front. But not a mobile keeper in all honesty.
  22. We have, but there have been more times the mentality has been poor. Whether its a case of thinking a game is won or lost before a ball is kicked, which makes it harder for us. There's also desire, which plays a huge role. I know that when i played against players who i knew were better than me, I had to work twice as hard to bring them down a peg or two, and if they weren't up for it then that gave us an advantage. We don't seem up for the fight in terms of winning individual battles often enough against some teams imo.
  23. You're making the assumption there though that by making changes, our replacements are worse players than St.Mirren, St.Johnstone etc. The players you mentioned walk into those teams and become their best players. Even a 38 year old Davis does. There is a drop off from our starting 11 to our reserves, but not to the point where we stop matching player for player. Therein the answer is mentality. Tactics go some way, of course.
