MayboleLoyal_atb 4,116
Oxford manager Chris Wilder says the experience will benefit his players. "It's something else, isn't it? The game will be a really good one, great facilities and afterwards we will go around to Ibrox. "I don't think it does us any harm to see what a big, big football club is like," he said.

Fairly young squad out there playing, I suppose Charlie Adam filled up the whole goal!!! Only joking I know it wasn't Charlie. BasileBoliSoup 9
TOMMY WILSON was delighted to see his Reserves return to action in style this afternoon with a superb 2-0 win over English Conference side Oxford United. For the majority of the Gers players this was there first game in almost two months but they were quickly back in their stride against a team that beat Morton's first-team 3-0 on Saturday. In poor conditions a fantastic strike from Andrew Little gave the Light Blues a perfect start to this competitive outing before Steven Lennon doubled his side's advantage with a delightful chipped finish with minutes of the second-half remaining. Coach Wilson was understandably pleased that his young side managed to overcome their more experienced opponents. He said: "We are using the games coming up as part of our pre-season preparations but we didn't expect too much today given that it was our first fixture. "But I thought the boys performed extremely well against a strong Oxford side. "I told the lads before the game what to expect as I knew they had their full first-team squad up in Scotland and they would rotate their players around. "We coped with that really well and showed a lot of maturity for a team so young. "It was nice to get off to a winning start especially when you consider the circumstances. "Paul Emslie and Alan Lowing had not played for months due to injury and although some of the players competed in the Soccer Sevens out in Hong Kong at the end of May this afternoon was the first real game for most of them for a long time." Little and Lennon both showed their class with two great finishes and Wilson was pleased that both marked their return to action by getting on the scoresheet. He added: "Andy has caught the eye recently. He has been doing very well for Northern Ireland and has been training with the first-team here at Rangers. "He had a wee knock before the game today but he wanted to play so that's why we took him off at half-time. "But it was a great goal he scored. "Going forward we would like to play him as a centre-forward but he is adaptable. "I think we have all agreed that he is a striker first and foremost but his versatility will be a big benefit for him going forward. "Steven did very well in a midfield position this afternoon and it was a great ball through to him from Stephen Stirling for our second goal. "It completed a good days work for the team and I thought we thoroughly deserved the win." The game also saw the half-timed introduction of Israeli trialist Gil Bluhmennstein who was recently released by Villarreal. RANGERS: Adam; Lowing (Wylde 60), Perry, McMillan, Kinniburgh (Loy 75); Lennon, Ness, Emslie (Cole 60), Stirling; Loy (Bagci 60), Little (Bluhmennstein 45)

J_RFC87 766
Glasgow Rangers 2 Oxford United 0 Oxford went down 2-0 to Glasgow Rangers this afternoon at the Gers' training ground. A goal from Andrew Little opened the scoring at the start of the first half, and Rangers completed the scoring when Steven Lennon chipped Ryan Clarke in the closing minutes. While the Rangers side comprised mostly youth internationals playing their first game since the end of last season, United fielded mainly players hoping to be considered for the first team. Clarke played the full 90 minutes in goal because Billy Turley was ill, and Adam Murray also played the full game. Matt Green came close a couple of times for Oxford, but the difference was that Rangers' goals both came from good finishes http://www.rageonline.co.uk/mainpage.php?t...1&year=2009 Blue Square Premier side Oxford United lost 2-0 in their latest pre-season friendly to a Rangers XI in Scotland. The match took place behind closed doors at the Gers' training ground. Manager Chris Wilder told BBC Oxford: "It was great to see the facilities, great facilities, and play against young international footballers, " "It was a great education for the players, a great workout for them, even though we are disappointed that we got beat." Ryan Clarke played the full 90 minutes in goal for United after Billy Turley felt ill prior to the match. Captain Adam Murray continued his rehabilitation from injury by also playing the full duration. The U's are next in action in a friendly at home to QPR on Friday, 24 July at 1945 BST. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...utd/8161464.stm+ Also, I thought Steven Lennon was being released? He had a poor spell at Partick.
