EVERTON have become the latest club to target £8million-rated Celtic winger Aiden McGeady.

Toffees boss Davie Moyes is an admirer of the Republic of Ireland internationalist and has made discreet moves to check on his availability.

However, he has been told Celts WON'T sell their prize asset in next month's transfer window.

Tony Mowbray is refusing to sanction McGeady's departure under any circumstances - news that will disappoint Premiership gaffers.

McGeady was Celtic's top man in the 2-0 win over Hamilton yesterday and is the one player Mogga can't afford to lose in the title chase. The Hoops boss has made this clear to the board.

MailSport understands the player is also keen to stay for the SPL run-in.

However, there is an acceptance the 23-year-old will want to move in the summer - and Mowbray won't stand in his way then.

Everton don't have the money to buy McGeady right now but that will change at the end of the season when transfer budgets are increased.

Spurs and Birmingham are also keen on the talented winger who has been having a fine season.

Anyone who wants Aiden should be compelled to pay a realistic international fee for an excellent international class player. The very best teams in Europe play two and three defenders on Aiden and he has still torn them apart. These great clubs target Aiden because they have done their homework on the Bhoy. If he ticks Celtic tick, if he is off orm, Celtic are all too often off form.

His pace and close control will be an asset to any club and even Manchester United and Real Mdrid could be enhanced by the abilities of the player. Aiden McGeady could learn a whole lot himself and he might develop his skill and improve his final ball, especially if he finds himself surrounded by great strikers and goalscoring midfielders.

The fact is that Aiden McGeady is the very big fish in the small SPL barrell and crowded midfields do not help him. 4-5-1 is the bain of attractive football but it is essential to those teams who cannot compete with the great play of certain teams. The EPL provides an opportunity to see Aiden McGeady being given room to do his stuff, because it is likely that his opponents will have two and three players on someone who is seen to be a greater threat.

I would not want to see Aiden McGeady leave Celtic Park. For me, this young man has easily been the jewel in the crown for my team, but he is entitled to make fantastic money, if and when he decides to challenge himself at a higher level. In return, the club who nurtured and coached him, to be a more complete footballer and more of a box to box player, are entitled to a substantial fee. If Alan Hutton is worth or was worth 9 million pounds, Aiden McGeady is worth a bit more. Why? Because he offers considerably more.

I hope he get's burst, is sidelined for months, misses both windows, celtc lose his services, and clubs cannot sign him. The he comes back, and break's down again!

He may not be worth £8m, but there is alway's some stupid fuck out there who will pay over the odds, and I'd rather he stayed at celtc, than them getting a decent bit of money!
