Trooblue 1,983
Over the past few years we have been slow to react at official level to the very well organised, coordinated attacks on the club from our enemies. The new board/management must ensure that we have a legal and PR team of the highest calibre which will be proactive, not reactive, will adopt a policy of instant rebuttal, and will constantly promote the image and reputation of the club. This requires a degree of professionalism which has been missing for too long at Ibrox. It's time for those in the media and Scottish football's corridors of power to understand that any and every attack on Rangers will be answered with cool calm logic, and will not be allowed to become part of some bizarre 'accepted wisdom' which damages our club. Rickywelsh 45
Exactly mate. In fact the rfff should use the money raised to date to hire these people now. I have said this for weeks. CraigG 56
Having a good pr team is at least as important as having a good team on the pitch. The most important immediate thing is to get a licence. Once that is done, a pr team could work to show how Rangers had acted with great dignity against vindictiveness of other clubs. This is not a message that is getting through to neutrals at the moment. Like I said, let's get a licence, taking whatever sanctions we have to, and then fight it from there. I'm sure there are loads of 'bears' out there that can chip in and fight for us (or even stick a few quid in), just to fight for what they love, THE RANGERS! Sean Connery springs to mind. More money than a horse can shite (and does tax avoidance), yet has been totally absent throughout all this. I'm guessing the 00 in 007 refers to the 2 arseholes that he's got. Lived in Spain to avoid paying taxes, yet donated £50k a year to the SNPratts? Read a while back about us getting rid of the glory hunters. This is a perfect example of it. And Gordon Ramsey can fuck off aswell Not the big mouth off camera, I'm guessing

He who laughs last, laughs the longest It's not really about the jokes - we can give and take those. It's about the impact of the drip, drip, drip of propaganda against the club. The only way to deal with that is to have an organised, professional unit within Ibrox, ready to correct the falsehoods and take the required formal steps to deal with the troublemakers. Gregor Stevens Fan Club 42
We've spent thousands upon thousands to Jack Irvine's Media House for PR over the years, however when you've got charlatans like Murray and Whyte running the club - then it's a case of continually "fighting fires".If we can get someone to run the club properly, with no financial shenanigans, no dubious business practices, no gambling with future revenues - then the stories will dry up, and alas, no need to spend scarce resources on "over-priced" PR gurus. We're in Div3 now, there's hopefully positive stories aplenty over the coming years as the club rises to the top once again. Sadly, the campaigns against Rangers won't just stop because we are in the 3rd and the club is at last being run properly - we'll have to look after our own interests a bit more proactively. That is the image that runs in the media. This is not because they dominate the media but because they are more effective at getting their narrative over. We've got to use similar weapons to them to combat this. I get the feeling that our pr dept, if we've got one, think that it's all about producing glossy brochures and golf umbrellas or whatever, but it isn't. Like you say, doing it right should not cost the earth.

Celtic pose as the outsiders, the 'persecuted underdogs' just as you say, but, in fact they are the real 'establishment club', skilled at getting the media to buy into their narrative, and securing their placemen in positions of authority (Regan is only one of them). And when did Rangers ever have a former Cabinet Minister as Chairman?

JCDBigBear 10,863
I have been saying this not for weeks or months, but for years. We have been hopelessly negligent as a Club at responding to negative media articles and rumours. At numerous AGMs it was often mentioned. David Murray was urged to do something but invariably it was "ignore them, don't buy their papers, don't watch their programmes". Look what that has achieved!! We supporters need to contact the Club in this regard. It is pointless moaning on here to each other if we don't pursue this objective with those in charge. Contact the RFFF, the Assembly, Jim Hannah and anyone who has any input at Ibrox. I've already contacted a number of people about this. I spoke to Malcolm Murray about it after the last RFFF meeting at Ibrox but it needs more than one person to get action.

Ralph Brand 54
Good first post. Problem is getting the professionals to run the club is difficult as they dont want to be invloved with part of our support. Who for example would want to work with the last owner. If more would support the team on the park and spend less time shouting abuse at opposition supporters we would attract people with lots of cash who see the opportunity to rebuild a great club. Truer to say that Celtci have effectively created an image for themselves as perennially burdened by the weight of shoulder chips. Because no one else is stupid enough to buy into their delusions of victimisation.Phil's tragically parented children even cried...

Excellent post, very well written and it articulates exactly what I have been thinking for years. We just do not know how to play the "propaganda" game. Judging by this post and your subsequent replies, may I suggest that you challenge those in the media (especially BBC) who continue to portray everything to do with RFC in the worst possible light. We need people like you on the frontline, people who can put together intelligent articles that debunk the enormous amount of drivel written in the mainstream press about RFC. Take up thy pen brother, please!!
