My laptop has been playing up for a while, so i did the restore to earlier image thing or whatever it's called... Or at least I was doing that and half way through my laptop switched off,now when I turn it on it says 'missing operating system' and I would do a restore but it won't let me as part of the hard drive has been partitioned to a restore thing if you getme? :anguish:

How could I fix this?

Is there no option anywhere to do a factory default restore? which puts the system right back to the way it was when you first turned it on?

On my old laptop I kept getting the blue screen of death for months whenever it was doing more than it could handle. I bit the bullet and did a full restore and it worked fine afterwards. Obviously I lost everything that was on it.

EDIT - Or, google "laptop missing operating system" and have a look at some of the answers on there etc. I had a quick look there and there's talk of sending it away to companies that specialise in "getting data from dead drives".

There was, but I went to restore the system back to how it had been in early June and half way through the process the laptop turned off and now I just get 'missing operating system'.

I've pressed F9 when I turned it on this time and I got something about Windows Set Up EMS or something - whatever that means - so I've clicked it as I'm out of options.

I think it's just restoring to default settings now, what a great day I'll have today getting all my programs back.

Also, when I plug my iPhone in - once I have iTunes again - how do I get everything from the phone onto iTunes or will it do it automatically? I don't want to lose everything on my phoned you see...

Well that was lucky laugh.gif Let's hope your successful 00000042.gif

As for your phone, what sort of stuff are you referring to? Pictures, music and apps etc will be saved on the phone and will load up under the "***** iPhone" tab at the left hand side in iTunes.

Also, if you had an Apple Store account through iTunes any purchases you have made will load in iTunes when you sign in to the Store.

I think it's very unlikely you will lose anything from your phone mate. You can't, however, drag your music files back into the default iTunes library from your phone. There is a way to do this but it's extremely technical laugh.gif00000042.gif

Yep, the pictures, music and apps. When I add more stuff to my phone though and sync it through iTunes doesn't it mean that I lose the stuff already on the phone?

I have s lot of music I didn't purchase from the iTunes store but downloaded from 'other places' which are all on my phone

Thanks for th help (tu)

Nah mate, the stuff you add to your phone through iTune's is stored on your iPhone's memory, same with iPod, iPad etc.

For instance, if you added a song to your default iTune's library, and then dragged into your iPhone, and then deleted it from the original iTunes library (or the file from your computer and not from the library) the song would still play under the iPhone tab at the side when it's connected and on your iPhone when it's disconnected. Only when you delete it from your phone or under the iPhone tab when connected to iTunes will you lose stuff from your phone... unless something gets fucked up and you lose something by accident.

Just make sure that when you do re-connect your iPhone to iTunes for the first time, if any pop-up messages appear make sure you read them and chose the correct option.

You may get a message saying something like "this is the first time you have connected this device to this computer" bla bla bla. You can also create a back up file on your phone which saves everything and creates a back-up copy but nothing should be deleted/removed from your phone anyway 00000042.gif

Out of interest, have you any other iOS products (iPod touch, iPad etc) and used "iCloud" before?

Well if you use iCloud, if you do happen to lose anything, I'm sure you'll be able to use that to transfer things back on to your iPhone from your iPad etc 10310.gif?

Did you have all that stolen in one day?!

Aye you'll manage man!

Fuckin' hell, horrible day for everyone except the cunt that bumped you all. wanker.gif

Must have been a gutting moment. Did you all report the phones missing so they got blacklisted etc?

Was in complete disbelief, stepped into the middle of the changing room and said 'my phone is gone' then two other people said the same, then someone turned up later as they didn't realize their iPod had gone.

The police came but they weren't interested in a £1700 crime, my dad kept hassling them and he had to tell them to get the phones blacklisted and had went around phone shops etc in the area to circulate the IMEI numbers before the police had even considered it. Useless sums them up!!

Aye the police are useless man. I lost my phone a few months ago on the way home from a night out, and my bank card funnily enough - smashin' night!

Anyway I phoned T-Mobile about the phone cause it was a contract and they blacklisted it and locked the phone. The polis did half as much! It got handed in right enough so I went to get it, it was fucked anyway.

If you's had a contract you could have phoned the service provider to blacklist it and locked it (tu)

They won't trace them, despite the fact that three were taken it would've taken a matter of seconds to trace them and they're basically saying its okay to steal!

Two of us had the 4S on contract which we both got at Christmas and the other guy has the 4 with about three months left. O2 just stopped the phones from being used within the UK, they didn't mention black listing them I don't think.

At least you got it back I guess, I was £500 down  It was my birthday the day beforehand so I had birthday money to replace it, still not great though!!

Not great all mate! As you say, with iPhone technology these days they could have tracked it down easily. Too much work for them though 00000041.gif

Any luck with the laptop?

Restored it, back up and running, just a few more programs to install now, was all much quicker than I expected!

Thanks for your help (tu)
