New laptop recommendations

Current laptop keeps overheating and has been very slow for the last few weeks so I'm looking for a new one.

I only really use it for FM and browsing the web etc so I don't want to pay over £350.

Found these two online but I'm not sure if they would be good enough for FM to run smoothly:

Thoughts on those and any other recommendations?

Asus is most definitely a more trusted brand etc, so would go for them personally but I'm not so sure about Windows 8, the first one still has Windows 7.

Windows 8 is brand new and probably wouldn't be very trustworthy, lots of people finding bugs etc, keep getting blue screens. All that pish.

I'm not really sure, you'd be best asking someone else.

Only thing that puts me off the first one is the brand, has pretty good specs though and would definitely run FM.

Aye, I've heard some people saying they've had problems with Windows 8 but tbh I'm not bothered if it's Windows 7 or 8, either would do.

Apparently the system requirements for FM13 say that the processor speed has to be 2.2GHz or above, so both should be OK for that. My current laptop's processor has that speed but it's the Intel Celeron processor which isn't great, so I'm looking for an Intel Core i3 processor which is supposed to be good for FM.

I agree with you about the brands, never heard of Medion before but the customer reviews seem decent and it's a pretty good price.

Do you think the Asus one would run FM smoothly aswell?

Toshiba and HP are other reliable makes.

Windows 8 is more aimed at touch screen devices, I tried it when it first came out, took it off after 20 mins.

The 2 above and these are all good laptops for the job.

You're basically just looking at the one with the highest RAM, Hard Drive & Processor of the lot.

Thommo check out these two threads, particularly the first one as it is within your price range.

Cheers mate, didn't notice those threads!

Quite like the look of that Fujitsu one, good specs.

Do you reckon the Samsung one I posted above would be good for FM?

Both will run FM fine however the Fujitsu has a superior processor and despite the raw clock speeds I reckon it will process things in the game alot quicker than the Samsung.

The Samsung has the better graphics card although both have on board graphics cards so neither are that great in that department.

In the end its up to yourself which is the best trade off however I would be cautious about getting the Samsung with Windows 8 until that operating system is more established. I'm not saying Windows 8 wont be great, just that its an unknown quantity and until its been out for a while, I think its better to stick to what we know works.

Agree about Windows 8 mate, cheers for the help.

I like the look of the Fujitsu one but it seems to be sold out in most places unfortunately.

What do you think of this one mate? Bit more than I wanted to pay but again the specs seem pretty good.

That's a shame about the Fujitsu however the Samsung you've linked in Argos looks pretty decent and definitely worth the extra money over the Samsung from Sainsburys. It also has the Intel HD 4000 graphics card which is better than the Intel HD 3000. Whilst still an on board card it is the superior of all three.

Good stuff, think that's the one I will go for then.

Cheers for all the help mate. (tu)
