The periods of sobriety he has had have probably saved his life. Some folk can put the bottle down and can remain sober for years and years, for others the journey is a bit tougher. At the end of the day, its not so much about quantity of sobriety but the quality of it. Those who crack it quickly should just be very grateful and very thankful that their pain is over, always remembering those who are still suffering from active alcoholism.
