He was referring to our days when we had magnificent players and 'went for it' in Europe by playing formations which were too attacking and ultimately under-achieving. True wingers appear to be his self-imposed sacrifice; he is usually in favour of more workman-like 'wide midfielders' these days. I did say 'usually'.
