It's only in recent months the tide has finally turned and the majority of the support now realises we're a selling club like almost every other club in the world. We've almost had to go through the process of hanging onto players who other clubs were willing to buy, for people to see the error in that. So it's not fair to blame Gerrard for that. No one was offering us 10 million for Tavernier. Patterson barely kicked a ball for us, was a great deal and we did the right thing selling when we did. The error we've made is not realising at least one or two of tav, goldson and barasic would need replaced as they're all getting older and slower.

See him mentioned a fair few times. He's done at this level. Can drop down a level or two and still play on a few years longer if he can stay injury free. But his time as a Rangers level player has now ended.

The barasic, goldson, Tav (and +1 CB) are now all on average too old and slowed enough we're getting caught out. Tav in particular pace has declined dramatically. I don't think he's done as player, but I think the Captain Tav of old practically winning games single handed has gone now. And the problem is going to be, he's never been the best defensively, what are we left with now the pace has gone? Souttar I'm absolutely no fan of, could be a squad player that barely plays at best. We're not winning the league with him in the starting 11. I might be wrong, but I think Beale's made signings on the basis of barasic and tav being the maverick wing backs they've been for a number of years now. But that's absolutely ridiculous, we could all see Barasic was out of gas all last season, and Tav was very clearly starting to decline the second half of last season. We could all see it, what the fuck were they thinking?!! Astonishingly bad squad management. Midfield is mostly empty shirts. Cantwell is a good player and worthy of a better squad than he's around just now. Raskin flatters to deceive. Jack's done. The forward line looks pitiful, and arguably the biggest concern of the lot. We've spent a relative fortune and look way worse than we did last season. Dessers is a donkey, Lammers powderpuff, danilo looks to be £6 million blown, which is utterly horrific. Overall we're far too slow with a back line that lacks mobility, a relatively weak Midfield, and a forward line we've spent money on to get a crew of journeymen who have little end product and can't seem to score. We've no prospects. Who are we bringing through who might kick on for us to make a profit on? Cantwell maybe, raskin possible... Matondo if we're lucky? That's about it. Deeply worrying for us, this is the sort of position it could take two or three years to fix. Certainly we don't have the finances to turn this around quickly.

Post Walter second time around we seem to have given up on the concept of putting a team out to keep things tight and scrape a narrow victory. Or had football changed and it's not possible to play like that anymore? I'm not sure. Either way PSV were very clearly better than us, we rode our luck in the first leg, we were very lucky last year to put them out, all that luck in our favour was bound to catch up with us eventually. We had to try and scrape a narrow 1-0, or else just keep it tight and maybe even play for pens.

He speaks well in interviews, is articulate and makes clear statements. Would be utterly bizarre if he's genuinely coming up with the right ideas but then not communicating that to the squad well enough.

Commentator talks them up and you start to get behind them. Striker quite often has the captains armband and been playing for the club a long time, in his early mid 30s. But the guy lumbers around, huffing and puffing, chasing clearly lost causes to make it look like he's giving his all, flying into silly tackles to make it look like he's dedicated to the cause. Apparently big and strong looking but terrible in the air and easily knocked off the ball. Poor shooting ability. Am I more or less describing Steven Thompson? How in the fuck was the above supposed to be the answer to filling the stiker position for the way we play as a team? It was clear the sort of player he is from his YouTube highlights clips. I suspect they were a good double act that fed off the initial buzz of Gerrard taking a managers job. We got really lucky getting Gerrard when we did. The aura of the mighty Steven Gerrard starting his managerial career with us, a sleeping giant of Rangers, sellik getting lazy as they lumbered to 10iar. Match made in heaven in a way when you look back. He had worked with the youth in Liverpool so knew about various English young players we could sign. A few canny signings of guys we'd played against, barasic, kamara. Gerrard seeming this strong figure the players got around, combined with Beale's coaching skills. The Gerrard aura has been found out when he moved to villa. And Beale's abilities have been found to be limited to a coach only.

Dessers reminds me of a guy you'd see playing for an English lower league team in the FA cup if they get a draw against a prem league team. Big plodding journeyman. Spends the whole game chasing lost causes, have hearted attempts to win headers, gets the odd chance and blasts wide.

Dessers offers nothing. Just don't get it with him. Slow, not particularly good touch, not great in the air, low accuracy hitting the target. Doesn't offer much of anything.

I like the look of that lineup. Bit more defensive minded than the typical teams we put out. Cantwell more or less a Laudrup-esque free role. Need a big game from everyone, particularly dessers up there himself. Need him to win headers, buy us free kicks and hold the ball up for us.

Get stuck into them. They don't like it up 'em. Psychology of PSV definitely seeks shaky. If we could nab a goal they'll start to get frustrated.

For me no debate. Lundstram all the way. I get he's not been the best, but operating at a level way above jack for essentially the entirety of his time here. I'm a Lundstram supporter, I don't quite get the extent of the vitriol aimed at him.
