Everton have reportedly agreed a club record fee of £11.75m for Middlesbrough striker Aiyegbeni Yakubu.

Boro confirmed on their website they have given the 24-year-old Nigerian permission to begin talks with the Goodison Park club.

Everton have reportedly agreed a club record fee of £11.75m for Middlesbrough striker Aiyegbeni Yakubu.

Boro say they have given the 24-year-old Nigerian permission to begin talks with the Toffees.

Portsmouth were also reportedly interested in bringing the striker they signed from Maccabi Haifa in 2003, back to Fratton Park.

A Boro spokesman said: "We can confirm we've agreed a fee, but will only confirm it once the deal is complete."

Yakubu featured in Boro's opening two Premiership games of the season, but was left out of their weekend victory at Fulham.

Sources close to Yakubu recently claimed the Nigerian had not submitted a transfer request to Boro boss Gareth Southgate.

Boro paid Portsmouth £7m for Yakubu in July 2005, impressed by a goalscoring record that saw him notch 29 goals in 65 Premier League appearance for the Fratton Park club.

SkyStory:

Middlesbrough have confirmed they have agreed a deal with Everton for Yakubu Aiyegbeni.

As revealed by skysports.com earlier this month Everton were leading the chase for the Nigerian international

The two clubs have been locked in talks for the last few weeks and have now finally agreed terms.

Portsmouth and West Ham were also interested, but the player's first option was always to seal a move to Goodison Park.

Boro had been looking for £12million the 24-year-old - but they have relented and accepted a deal worth just over £11million.

Yakubu, who trained with Middlesbrough on Wednesday, is now due on Merseyside to discuss personal terms and undergo a medical.

The Nigerian will become Everton's record signing and if all goes according to plan he should be available to make his Toffees debut against Blackburn on Saturday.

Denied a work permit yet he has been playing England for 4 seasons or so? I know he hasnt played in 75% of Nigeria's games but thats down to his own choice. If Anderson can get one then Yakubu will finally get one. Waste of time in the end rejecting the initial one.
