The Argentinian playmaker is looking to leave current club Villarreal before the close of the transfer window on Friday. He spent the second half of last season on loan at Boca Juniors and has revealed he would play for the club for free, if he could secure a return. Riquelme was also interesting Tottenham, but the former Barcelona schemer looks set to stay in Spain. Reports suggest Atletico have agreed a deal with Villarreal, with Riquelme accepting a two-year contract. An option for a further 12 months has also been included in the package, although there is yet to be an official comment on the transfer by either club. he'd be a great signing for them. the goal machine 7,802 Posted September 1, 2007 Share Posted September 1, 2007 Football journalist Gabriel Marcotti is in the 5live studio and says Atletico Madrid are yet to conclude a deal for Juan Roman Riquelme so there is hope for Everton, but he adds the player does not want to be in Europe so it may not be the best piece of business.
