  1. In a meaningless friendly? Celtc have actually beaten teams of this calibre in European competition in recent years yet you are all excited about seeing them play Rangers in a friendly? I want to see Rangers not only play teams like AC Milan in European competition but try and beat them. Hmmmm, Tontospal. How pally are you with Tonto? He wouldn't be pulling your strings would he? Or are you indeed the imbecile from 606?
  2. Harry Davis - only man on earth who could have strengthened the Iron Curtain.
  3. This is a load of coblers. Rangers are the people's team. For what it's worth Sir Ian Botham is a declared on Radio supporter of the Blues both Chelsea and the famous Rangers.
  4. 'Well had a good half line in those days. Aitken (not Shirley) Martis, Bert McCann. Pity they're not available now. Martis would do nicely to take over from Weir. The other two would make a pretty decent midfield with Pedro.
  5. "Rangers are forcing them to make unforced errors" - Billy Dodds.
  6. There was no Matthews, only Andy Matthew signed from East Fife. Hard working but had toi give way to the immortal Davy Wilson. From "Rangers, Player byPlayer" (Ferrier and McElroy) "Iain MacDonald (1969-73) An outside left in the mould of Willie Johnston and Willie Henderson, Iain showed great talent as a youngster breaking into the teamunder Willie Waddell in 1969-70. A cartilege operation in March 1970 ended that season for him and after a spell with Dundee United injuries forced him to give up the game. Games 14 Goals 2 Born Edinburgh 26 August 1952"
  7. Macdonald was a baby-faced wonderkid but Shevlane did for him plying for Morton was it not?
  8. Bobby Shearer in goals against a redhot Hearts team in a midweek league game at Tynecastle when Billy Ritchie was carried off after eleven minutes. No subs then. 3 - 1 to the famous Rangers, 40,000 + crowd.
  9. Eric Caldow. World class standout as a full back. Jardine was not as good as Caldow but he could play wing half or inside forward as well. The two others are merely excellent.
  10. Billy Stevenson was a terrific wing half. I f only there had been substitutes in those days. We could have kept him and Scott as well and Ian McMillan could have gone off after an hour.
  11. "Wha's like us ?" Damn few and they're a' deid. (Cast drained glass over shoulder to smash in the fireplace - saves on the washing up))
  12. I was at the other end that day so it could have been Ralphie right enough. Whoever did it only used one hand though! Tim refs even then! Bobby Davidson in fact.
  13. Big Sammy good or average for the 'Gers? Jury's still out on that one. I thought he did alright. He was involved in the ref chalking off an equalising goal in a semi-final against Hibs. Scandalous decision. Sammy only used one hand to palm the ball down.
  14. Brown, Young and Shaw wouldn't have made it today but the other three trained up and kitted out would be stand-outs. In fact they'd have been transferred out for mega bucks. White Van - was it your uncle Wizzy or your uncle Billy? Big respect if it were either of those two, but was Wizzy not really a Clacher at heart?
  15. After hammering the spalpeens the next league match was a 2 - 1 win at Dunfermline on 9 March.
  16. Best in England are Sunderland v Newcastle and WBA v Wolves.
  17. On 22 January 1949 in a Scottish Cup first round tie at Ibrox the Iron Curtain was pierced by Johnny Logie of Elgin City a lifelong Rangers fan scoring the City goal in Rangers' 6 - 1 victory. Big deal? Not really except for Johnny, the rest of his team and Elgin supporters but no one else could do it it until Clyde in the final won 4 - 1 by Rangers.
  18. White Van guy - "You're fuckin tripping mate, Caley used to wipe the floor with Elgin....i should know, my uncle played for them both. Said Caley were Rangers & Elgin were Partick Thistle in comparison." Did uncle play in the 2 - 8 game at Inverness? Was he one of the three City binned for boogieing the night before a cup tie? No matter. Respect to uncle. They were great games in those days even if Caley couldn't buy a win. Bitter sweet era. City smashing all comers but celtic winning a few titles in a row. Oh and by the way, Caley only once played in front of a five figure crowd and that was 12,000 at Elgin!
  19. Better than our full backs I should have said.
  20. With City and Caley gone they're all stromg now! More seriously new guys, Locos, 'Vale and Keith and mibbees Cove and Buckie.
  21. Looked a decent player. Better than ours?
  22. "Farmers" is fine by me. In fact we should have stayed behind the plough for all the use we are. How the mighty are fallen. Lets hope Rangers don't go the same way.
  23. Terrific player in a brilliant Dundee side, average with Rangers. Don't know about Arbroath but not sirprised if playing for the old Caley drove him to drink. Only way to forget about the hammerings they got from the old Elgin City.
