  1. If you had asked most fans at the end of last season that after the first rotation we would be 2 points behind having to bed in a new manager, a multitude of new players having made the europa group stages and a really bad opening fixtures i think the majority would take it.

Could we have done better and maximised our points? Yes but come on give them a chance. Let's hang onto celtic through the busy December and see what we can do in the 2nd half of the season.

That'll  be from the night we pumped Parma out the Champions League qualifiers .......atmosphere was unreal during that game, one of the best I've ever experienced.

Might have been the first leg, but we pumped them anyway ?

That was the first game i went to. what a game.

    Veron, chiesa, crespo

And we had the mighty Tony vidmar

12 of the ‘out’ list are only out on loan, as well - almost half the list!

That's a potential issue for next summer as we still need to get rid of those guys. Potentially a big issue.

Looking at the list you would say a little more quality still needed middle to front.

But the major difference is it's maybe like 1 midfielder, another wide option and a possibly a striker option. 3 players rather than a whole squad.

Great window and hopefully going forward it's the finishing touches in January and next summer.

I don’t know mate, Pena could be the last piece in the jigsaw ..... ?

The scary thing is sober and back on form that got him into the Mexican.......

Nope even I can't finish that sentence off!

The two CBs look outstanding. Hopefully we get a third because any injuries and we're fucked.

But we don't need another CB according to some posters.....

Goid post, agree with pretty much all of the above. I've tempered my frustration a fair bit as I knew that there would never be the fabled 20m kitty there. Hopefully though with a few more off the wage bill there might be a bit more scope for activity in January. But as you say, it was never all getting sorted in this window.

I think you are spot on with the wages. We had a fortune in "dead wages" at the start of the summer. We still in effect due as some wage savings are currently only temporary as pena, Herrera etc are loaned out.

SG has maximised the incremental gains to the team by making the defence and middle of the park tougher. That will see the biggest return as we all know that threat at the top end of the park costs more to bring in.

If we had pushed on with another 10m then yes with that spent on the spine I would be hoping to challenge them but the practical element would say that it will be over a couple of Windows with the aim to improve, secure 2nd, put up a better fight by at least beatingthem this year and try and make it into Europe. That would give us a good platform to push on next year without the need for 12 player changes which has happened in each of the last 3 years. We need time and consistency to let this team gel together.

  7. To change it all in one window is being unrealistic and also to challenge the scum in one window. That said I would have hoped for more funds to have been committed.

What is there is a definite improvement but the team could really push on with putting quality in the spine of the team. Another CB, CAM and striker of really first choice quality would make a massive difference to this team.

Obviously that costs funds and hopefully some of that will come from the sale of windass, foderingham and the 3m we bid on cooper.

I would settle for a quality defender and striker and maybe look for a CAM in January if we can somehow squeak into the group stages and bank and extra few million from that.

Sorry pal I wasn't saying that in the slightest. You said talk of increased fitness was premature, all I said was that they would be fitter after ten days of training.

Yeah they definitely will be fitter and it's really good to see them focus on it as I think we can all agree it wasn't where it needed to be last year.

I just would have maybe liked them to have been less shouty about it until the hard work is actually done over a period and the benefits are tangible and noticeable.

But definitely good to see that they are getting worked hard and has been identified as an issue. I think again just part of that higher level of professionalism that the player Gerrard beings to his management approach. Hopefully the rest of his manager attributes are of a similar level.
