Yeah, they've had some good and great players. The likes of Blokhin, Rats and so forth were players. I just think that for a combined population of 2oo and whatever million, a whole lot more of them should have emerged over the last 50 years than have. It confuses me a bit. 

Most of this tournament has been really forgettable for me. Well, at least I think so, as I can't remember much of it.

I wonder if any Russians and Ukrainians wouldn't mind getting a big sidey going again after their abject displays in the last few tournaments. I mean, for such huge populations, they are utterly hopeless and seemingly beyond salvation. I suppose they did qualify right enough... Though they must have been in very poor groups.

Those will probably always be the pinnacle for me. Probably a generational thing. Beautiful Argentinian strips, Rummenigge, vicious dreadlocks, marvellous volleys and the last spark of the USSR.

The Albanian centre-half, Ajeti, was immense. Heard in the commentary the other night that he is only 22. Sign him up, the big, solid, chrome-domed bastard.
Croatia v Spain was brilliant too. And I agree wholeheartedly with your sentiments about modern football. Give me Mexico 86 or Euro 88 any day of the week. Brazil 2014 had a cracking group stage though and then fizzled out (Germany hammering Brazil aside) - let's hope this tournament doesn't go the same way during the knock-out stages... Although the early signs are not very promising.
 

I missed Croatia v Czech , but I enjoyed watching Croatia against Spain and Turkey. I think apart from the last 15 minutes against the Czechs they've been possibly the best in the tournament. Definitely justifying the outside bet tag. 
I've also enjoyed the Italians, mostly for the very Italian way they dismantled Belgium. It's sometimes comforting to see that some things are still the way they're supposed to be...
Yeah, similar sentiments about Albania, who I don't feel have had the results they deserved. Their two centre halves had smashing tournaments overall. And it's good to see Iceland do well. 
Lacks quality overall though, my man. The beginning-to-age man in me dislikes the way football is now alot of the time. Too many teams that play the same way with the same style and the same formation. 
Give us a few out and out wingers, a hatchetman and a lethal striker or two ffs!!

It's not been the most exciting major tournament ever witnessed but I thought the Croatia v Czech was a ripsnorter and watching Albania and Iceland has been strangely compelling. Especially against Romania and Portugal respectively. The so-called big guns have all been a disappointment up to this point.
Edit: I missed the Portugal v Hungary game but that looked like it was a tasty affair too, from the highlights.

Fair play. At least you would have still qualified in the old format by topping the qualifying group but this last 16 is a bit of a crock.
The standard of football has dropped noticeably at this tournament and I would hope they revert back to 16 teams... But of course they won't as it's all about politics and raking in the extra cash to UEFA.
Plus I am slightly annoyed because I thought Albania were far better entertainment value... And they brought along an absolute battery of beautiful ladies.
