I’d pretty much always want our manager to get the best out of our players. I don’t accept for one second that Cantwell is ‘too talented to be spending his best years with us’, though. If we had the choice of £3 or £4m this month for Cantwell, or letting Clement see what he can do with him, I’d take the money.

Ally clearly a much better story teller as well as a much better player and goalscorer, than Alfie.

I’d take 3-4m right now if it let us get someone, Clement wants, in.

Just happened to be you whose post I noticed re Cantwell (above) and wondered if you’d posted on Dessers since yesterday (below). Could probably be a few others, tbh. We’ve got a centre forward who isn’t as good as we need, but does contribute to a reasonable degree (10 goals and half a dozen assists, I think). Looking at his general play he is probably playing and contributing as much as he can - his level just isn’t good enough. And he gets absolute dog’s abuse. Then we have another player who is clearly playing well below his level and what he can contribute , yet gets a fraction of the abuse (not that I want any player to get abuse). You really like someone who clearly isn’t making the required effort, yet can’t see the guy who does contribute far enough. We need miles better than both of them. Dessers is possibly worth a place in the squad (not sure if he’d have enough chances in 20 minutes, though), Cantwell is worth a place on the transfer list.
