  3. found this chairmans statement on the hougang united website....interesting. if nothing else mr.ng talks the talk, lot of similarities in his view of hougang fans to our fans support for rangers. what do you think guys? HGFC'S CHAIRMAN NEW YEARS' ADDRESS- YEAR OF 2012 It has been proven a challenging 2011 with much uncertainty worldwide, especially in the financial sector Europe in the second half of 2011. There are also many adverse, world changing events over the whole year. Likewise in 2011, Hougang United Football Club (HGFC) faced great challenges. HGFC's mascot, Cheetah, has also faced great challenges to survive the year. Similar to a Cheetah in the great wilderness, we strived for excellence and our thirst for agility has brought us a closure to 2011. With our Cheetah's superior, competitive and subtly aggressive characteristic, our belief that the Cheetah presents an accurate symbol of the Club's ambitions has been proven in year 2011 and we hang on to the belief into the year 2012. It was also a year of changes for HGFC whereby the Club's name was changed to "Hougang United Football Club" in the early 2011 to reach out to our community around our home ground. There was dark episode for Hougang United Football Club during the Season when HGFC and Etoile FC were involved in a fracas in May 2011. Both teams were brought to the Disciplinary Committee and inquiry was made with punishments melted out to both Clubs. This has been a hard lesson learnt for the Club and myself. We are determined not to repeat such mistakes in the history of the Hougang United Football Club. To all HGFC's fans, support from you has given us tremendous courage and strive to perform and excel on the pitch. We like to express our sincere appreciation to our supporters. It is supporters like You that has brought so much vibrancy into our games. It is your cheers and your songs that have lifted the spirits of our players and it is your support that has made all the hard work worthwhile. And, most importantly, it is your presence that has forged a strong friendship in the football scene! Thank you. We are looking forward to a brighter 2012 with your great support and we will continue to strive to create a vibrant match-day experience for our supporters / fans and a greater community involvement from the Club, as well as increasing the level of football exposure to our youths and beyond.. The Club had seen positive changes in 2011. The S-League team climbed to the 7th position in 2011, we had claimed the 1st Runners up position in the League Cup and had played our way into the Semi-Finals of the RHB cup. My continual belief to "Change for a better" is as steadfast into my 3rd year as a Chairman though Change has been known to be troublesome, or even painful. It is the positive changes that we had made to thrive in and had leveraged upon to what we have achieved so far. Change, is what I believe is the key in constructing a modern and sustainable football landscape for Singapore, and for HGFC. In the year 2012, we will be looking into a stronger team with the changes made to the technical team. We have a new coach, Mr Nenad Bacina, who will be contributing a lot to our progress in our new season. This is not the first time Mr Nenad touches our shores, he was a footballer himself in Singapore for 4 years and had been a coach with Woodlands Willington FC in 2009. Apart from his experiences in local culture and football scene, he had also led Malaysian Team and Croatian Teams in many competitions. We have strong belief in his vast experiences that he can bring HGFC to a higher level of football both on and off the pitch. We also have very capable assistants, Mr Hyrizan and Mr Nahar, with Mr Nenad in the Season 2012. Both of them are outstanding local coaches. We strongly believe that the new coaching team is a strong formidable combination. In closing, I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere, heartfelt thanks to all players, coaches, management and staffs for their hard work and efforts being poured into the Club. I welcome all new members to our family this season and hope all of you will continue to cooperate fruitfully and put in your best efforts to work hard to the future success of the Club. Let us look forward to what we want to achieve collectively and ultimately; that is how we are going to unite as one and work for the future development and expansion of the Club. Yours Sincerely Bill Ng HGFC Chairman

  9. I was there when Jerome Bonnisel and Dan Eggen made their debuts as trialists in Dubai in 2003. A friendly against German 2nd division team,Energie Cottbus. Remember a report at the time quoted Martin Bain saying if they want to sign for Rangers they must take a substantial wage cut,and that times were hard and Rangers were open to offers for SOME of our players.AND THAT WE WERE 50 MILLION IN DEBT! Sounds familiar! here is the report: Wage cut pressure on Gers trio Impressive showings by trialists Jerome Bonnissel and Dan Eggen have put further pressure on Rangers players who have been warned they face wage cuts if they want to stay with the Scottish Premier League leaders. But Rangers chairman John McClelland believes that strikers Claudio Caniggia and Michael Mols, plus defender Arthur Numan, realise the new harsh realities of football finances in 2003. Any acquisition of Bonnissel from Bordeaux would increase the pressure on fellow left-back Numan, one of the trio out of contract in the summer, who is also wanted by clubs in his Dutch homeland. It appears that Bonnissel has particularly impressed in training - veteran Norway centre-back Dan Eggen less so due to a lack of match fitness. Players in general do recognise that salaries and wages are not what they were before Rangers chairman John McClelland And they will get a chance to shine in the weekend friendly against Bundesliga basement side Energie Cottbus during Rangers' winter break in Dubai. Rangers captain Barry Ferguson said: "It's difficult to assess them right now, but the two of them look good enough and I'm quite impressed with them." Assistant boss Andy Watson added: "Both have come in and fitted in very well. "It is a chance for us to have a look at them and a chance for them to see if they like our techniques and training styles." It is unlikely that either player - Eggen is available from Spanish side Alavez - will command a substantial transfer fee. Bordeaux full back Jerome Bonnissel Bonnissel would be a threat to Arthur Numan Rangers have debts of more than £50m and wage cuts rather than big-money transfer fees are now the order of the day. Chairman McClelland said: "Players in general do recognise that salaries and wages are not what they were before. "I think there is a sense of realism and I'm not threatening players with that sense of realism because I think they recognise it themselves. "Another part of this realism is that there are decisions we won't be able to make until April, so some of the players will have to wait until we know what our budgets are going to be like for next year." But the Ibrox chairman says there will be no wholescale clearout and slapped a not-for-sale sign on Ferguson. "We are not looking for bids for our star players," he said. "There might be a player or two for whom we would consider reasonable bids, but we are not soliciting bids or expecting bids. A German club offered us four players that originally cost them roughly £20m just to take their wages off Rangers director Martin Bain "We do not have the financial reservoir we have had in the past, but it doesn't mean to say we are bleeding the way we were." Rangers' director of football business, Martin Bain, pointed out that it was a situation striking the whole of football. "A German club offered us four players that originally cost them roughly £20m just to take their wages off. "But the wages were large and, needless to say, we have not brought them on board. They were offered to us for nothing." On a side note, funniest thing i've seen at a match was a wee arab wearing a long white smock, with 'HOT PIES' written on the back in marker pen, whilst carrying a big plastic picnic box full of SCOTCH PIES.....IN DUBAI!! Fucking hilarious at the time. Anyone else at this game?

  17. A thought just struck me there when reading about Mr.Kennedy being at Ibrox and Auchenhowie today. Would part of his plan be to move Sale Sharks up to Glasgow ? Think it might not be beyond the realms of possibilty, did Newcatle Rugby club not start as a club based in London. I honestly think the rugby team if based at Ibrox would get far bigger crowds than they get playing at Stockports ground, possibly over ten thousand per game, and with their continued success this could and probably would increase, and bring in a major revenue stream to the club. Thoughts anyone?
