  1. Very disappointed in Gerrard.

I think he should have stayed put until the end of the season. There is a league title to defend, as well as domestic and European cup competitions to challenge for.

I understand his ultimate goal is to manage Liverpool and he probably needs to prove himself in the EPL first, but surely he could have waited until the summer ? I understand jumping ship mid season if it was LFC that was calling but not Aston bloody Villa.

I like Gerrard, think he's a class act but this fucking naivety needs to stop.  There's certain things needed in an OF game and some not.  Energy, passion, desire and your best players playing, none of that was evidenced today.

This is a massive wake up call for young boys coming to the club like Aribo and Ojo, like Ejaria before them. You either step up to the plate or you shite out of it and, sadly, it's been the latter for most.  We lack character in the team, despite what a last min winner at a crap Kilmarnock team would suggest.  We played so well against Midgetland in Denmark with our 'normal' team selection. That's the way we play, that's the way we set up for this game and let popcorn teeth change his formation. As a club, we shat it.

I concur. I like Gerrard too but he is a rookie manager who has surrounded himself bar Gary Mac with academy coaches who have no SPL or senior experience.

Manager Steven Gerrard conceded his decisions were "part of why" Rangers lost 2-0 to celtic in the season's opening Old Firm game.

Rangers are three points behind celtic in the Scottish Premiership after goals by Odsonne Edouard and Jonny Hayes at Ibrox caused a first loss in 12 games.

But Gerrard refused to be overly critical of his side.

"Maybe with hindsight you go back to the team you pick and the gameplan," he told Sky Sports.

    Reaction & how it happened

Which celtic player did you rate man of the match?

Gerrard opted for Jerman Defoe instead of Alfredo Morelos up front, and pushed Joe Aribo forward from his move familiar midfield role at the expense of the likes of Sheyi Ojo.

And he admitted that those decisions contributed to his side suffering just a second defeat in their last 19 matches.

"I'll certainly analyse myself but I don't want to stand here and pass on the blame on to the dressing room," he said. "The dressing room has been fantastic for me. But I'm part of why it went wrong today.

"Once the dust settles we'll analyse it properly, but it's three points are there's still an awful lot of football to play. We're four points better off than we were this time last year."

While on the whole Gerrard was unwilling to blame his players, he had little sympathy for substitute Jordan Jones, who was sent off in stoppage-time.

The former Kilmarnock winger was shown a straight red card after a late slide tackle on Moritz Bauer.

"Without a shadow of a doubt it was a red card," Gerrard added.

"I think Jordan was maybe trying to appease the fans - that's not how you appease fans. You do it by creating and scoring goals if you're a wide man, not by kicking people when the ball is 10 yards away.

"He deserves his red card, he deserves his ban and he's got everything to do now to get back in my team."

  4. It was the manner of the loss that hurts the most.

Hopefully the manager will have learnt a lot from today's poor team selection. Pleased to see he acknowledges he made mistakes in his post match press conference.

The problem is characters like Beale and co that he’s brought up fancy themselves as tactics geniuses so they’d have probably been behind the changes for today but Gerrard should never have gone ahead with that

He is the biggest spoofer going.

  6. This is not a knee jerk reaction as I have had this concern for a while now, but I would question the calibre of the backroom staff that Steven Gerrard has assembled around him.

Souness had the vastly experienced Walter Smith to bounce ideas off, but Gerrard  has brought up former academy coaches with him in the likes of Michael Beale, Tom Culshaw and Jordan Milsom who have no experience of coaching senior pros. I have a great deal of respect for Gary McAllister but he has failed as a coach and a manager in previous roles.

Gerrard still has my full support but I question the capabilities of those around him.

    2 massive games this week

Was wondering, who most bears would have up front?

Personally. I would start with Alfredo Thursday and Defoe starting Sunday.

Got a feeling SG will do this. Just not sure if his selection will be same as mine.

    Both games are massive though

I just hope both players are still with us by the end of the week, and the manager has that selection dilemma.

  8. Gerrard is learning on the job. Progress has been made but mistakes have been made which is understandable with a rookie manager. The guy is a serial winner & will have learnt a lot about himself and his team this season. He has my full support and I think we will see big improvements next season. The board need to back him in the summer & the recruitment team and scouts need to up their game.

    In Gerrard we trust.

    Let's go.
