Time for some truth...

The article highlights that there is no social discrimination or sectarianism in Scotland. There are well documented cases of sectarianism at scottish football matches, and indeed at away games in Europe. Does it only exist at football games? Are they just 90 minute biggots? To quote the article "More than a third of cases (sectarian breach of the peace) were associated with football matches or Orange marches. This is a high level considering there isn't a footbal match or an Orange march every day of the week. It appears that mindless drunken louts tend to attach themselves to these events intending to disturb the peace through sectarian chanting and the likes.

If so Jack Mconnel could be right in targetting football clubs in the fight against sectarianism.

Many posters on this board blame sectarianism on the seperate schooling system we currently have. I wonder if they would agree with the article? If so, does this mean that segregated schooling does not encourage sectarianism or discrimination???? That is what the article appears to say.

Although the article covers society in general, and makes some valid points it fails in my opinion to go into sectarian chanting at football matches in any great detail. That afterall, is why we are being put under the microscope by the Scottish Parliment and Uefa.

why point out orange marches and not mention the ira marches that are held on our streets.

Because the PIRA marches are less popular events and therefore don't have as much drunken people following them and causing trouble.

Remember the figures say that football matches and OO marches cause 1/3 of sectarian arrests. This just means that these two are the most infamous for such a thing happening. It doesn't say that IRA marches don't cause ANY prblems but clearly not as much as OO marches. That is all.

you must be blind the ira marches are followed by the biggest bunch of scumbag troublemaker who cause trouble wherever the march its all one sided in this country now,if your a protestant you are accused of being a bigot or troublemaker.

It was beyond me then and still is now how ira marches were allowed never mind anything else.

Interesting comments regarding the propensity of sectarian offences to occur at football matches and not in general society.

Does this indicate that it is merely a form of tribalism which manifests itself at football matches...if those same people go back to their communities and seem to forget about their differences ?
