It is being widely rumoured this morning that Steven Naismith has put pen to paper on a new deal with the club that will extend his current deal to five years, tying him to the club until 2015.

If the club confirms this later on today then it will be like the fourth new signing for the club as we move towards the transfer window.

With Edu, Lafferty and Jelavic ready to return to the fray, Walter Smith can start to breath a little easier and start to think about choices for where to put players on the pitch as opposed to who he will be able to pick at all.

Confirmed

RANGERS can confirm Steven Naismith has signed a new deal with the SPL champions which will keep him at Ibrox until May 2015.

The versatile forward, signed from Kilmarnock in August 2007, agreed terms yesterday and will now spend the next four and a half years with the Light Blues.

The 24-year-old has been in excellent form this season, scoring eight goals and grabbing his first Scotland strike against Spain.

News Naismith has chosen to remain with Gers will thrill supporters of Walter Smith's side as they look to reinforce their championship lead over Christmas.

That is good news, The Rangers have looked after him really well during his lengthy injury spells and periods of abject form, so its good to see some morale fibre there, payback time, good on you Stevie Naismith.

What sort of dough do you reckon he is on a week in the new contract??

How is this like 4 new signings? <cr>

With Edu, Lafferty and Jelavic ready to return to the fray

Jela has been out for months now, so that is like gaining a new player and bringing back Edu & Lafferty who have fairly long term injuries also means we are seeing the squad depth being strengthened.

Yes, it would be good if we can get new signings to add & increase the squad but securing our better players is also vitally important for the continuity of the team in the coming years.

Jelavic, I suppose I can give you as he was still settling in and getting started.

Naismith has played all season, Edu has missed 5 games, Lafferty 3. Balls all like 3 news signings and to suggest otherwise is straw clutching of the highest order.

Good to have them all back though.

The old 'like a new signing' line. What a load of shite, how the fuck is a player extending his contract anything at all like bringing in a new signing? Same goes for the return to fitness of Edu and Lafferty, it s pretty embarrassing statement to make in my opinion.

embarasing pathetic depressing bu that what we have been brought to.
