Gash07 26
I actually think 4-5-1 is the correct formation to play in Europe. That formation can be as attacking or defensive as you like, but obviously when Walter fills the 10 outfield positions with 6 recognised defenders and 0 recognised strikers the onus is on the latter. Think how potent it could be if, like many other top teams do, you use wingers on the flanks of the midfield 5. Then consider that, of the 3 central midfielders, one could be deployed in behind the striker to link and support. Used in this manner the ultra defensive 4-5-1 can, in the blink of an eye be very very positive. Walter gives this formation a bad name.IMO we don't have the cash nor the youth system to field players capable of beating top European sides at their own game, thus, going 4-4-2 would likely lead to a return to a good result here and there but mostly early exits and heavy defeats in Europe. Morale of the story being don't blame the formation but aim for the people purchasing and selecting the people to fill it.
gunslinger 270
Nearly, but it didn't Many teams still play the 4-4-2, no matter what some say.i never said they didnt. and i think tonights fantastic sucess had little to do with 442.

willcol 13
OMG!!!!!!!!!!! it actually works, having 2 front men to force the defenders to think more actually worksi wonder who's more surprised, smith at this realisation or us for him actually realising itwell done rangers, especially after the changes, we pushed up higher without weir, and we had a lot more threat up front with the 2 front menif smith has ANY intentions of winning the SPL he HAS to take tonights result on board and how well the team looked with a 4-4-2also, i thought papac was fouled for their second goalwell hears hoping that smith sticks to 4-4-2 from now that he has seen the light, WATP

Jimfanciesthedude 24,986
They played a 4-2-3-1 both times recently.watching sundays shambles it looked like a 4-4-2 everytime they had the ballprobably sink back to a 4-2-3-1 when we had the ball (not often mind you)i cannot wait for the day that rangers can get some actual attacking fullbacks againbursaspor at ibrox and then our second goal tonight shows just what a high pressing, wide playing team can donone of this flood the middle, then pray that we can deal with cross balls from wide shite that we seen in valencia and recently against the beggars
