Double Standards

After a night on youtube watching pieces of last season, I had a look at a video of the 'melee' between hearts and c*ltic. I was shocked at how obvious their sectarian chants were and how I heard nothing about them. I did not watch the game live, at the time I only saw the news/read the papers to see that a hearts fan had attacked that ginger ringpiece. I have two pieces of footage taken from the home and away side that is accessable on youtube that shows how blatent these chants are:

AND http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-3o7TWOujs&feature=related

As much as people don't really want to watch them, I just cant believe I didnt hear about this at the time AT ALL! This game happend on the 12th May 2011 and our ban was active from the 28th April 2011. This is a time when we were having to watch what we were singing at games home and away. I am absolutely outraged by this!! I am sure many of you will already be aware of this all but I then came across this: http://leggoland2.blogspot.com/2011/06/catholic-church-backs-celtic-ira-songs.html

Yet again, I'm sure you are all aware of this so I appologize for wasting your time. I don't mind us getting a ban for "singing sectarian songs" or anything else. I just want the same rules to apply to everyone. What would you do to make it fair? RANT OVER

Nothing we can do about other fans

All we can do is do what we did in the last few games last season

Hopefully the attention will then turn to others even pat nevein and queers gave us credit and nevien highlighted them for their chants and songs hopefully that will continue

We will never stoop to their level

You are aware that it was UEFA that have banned us arent you ??

And that they can have no influence over the game you posted ??

And therefore its not double standards in this instance.

As for the SPL...They are on record as saying that they will not punish either club because they feel the clubs are working hard to eradicate these problems.

I didnt say that UEFA should ban Celtic. I was saying that it was double standards because we were having to watch what we were singing at the end of last season as a result of our ban (even in SPL games) and they were just chanting quite clearly sectarian chants.

Also if your saying that the SPL are on record saying "they will not punish either club coz they feel the clubs are working hard to eradicate these problems" then why were we having to be so careful in the games (as part of the SPL) after the date of our ban and they were getting away with this!? THIS IS DOUBLE STANDARDS!? Did this get media attention? HARDLY!!!

How can it be double standards when you are talking about 2 completely different organisations making a decision on something ??

As things stand the SPL cant be accused of having double standards because put simply, both clubs have got off the hook with sectarian singing for years and Celtic in particular have got off the hook with all their IRA shite.

I agree and understand that the SPL and UEFA are two different organisations but tell me why it is ok for C*ltic to be chanting this so freely while we were, at the same time, being careful not to sing anything out of line. why didnt we just belt out the billy boys!? according to you, it shouldnt matter coz we got banned by UEFA and not the SPL.

Its not OK for them to be belting it out freely though. Im only pointing out that what you said as far as it being double standards is wrong.

This is 2 completely unrelated incidents and 2 different organisations dealing with problems.

Im DELIGHTED we are being careful not to sing anything out of line, and once we can put our hand on our hearts and say they are gone for good, then we can turn our attention on the other mob.

They truly are scummy bastards. The double standards are from the press more than anything.. Perhaps comparing these incidents to ours is a bit wrong when double standards are concerned, but what about the punishment that Hearts got? What about the rare European outings of the scum?? They sing these very songs and nothing happens. Nothing is reported. Double standards in the press!

Going to have to agree to disagree because I believe it is double standards. I never said that the same organisation that issued our ban (UEFA) should ban C*ltic (obviously because they can't). I was saying it is double standards in the way that we were treated domestically after our ban was issued. Every journalist was listening out to hear if they could hear a shadow of the billy boys, etc at our games while this incident (and im sure many more) passed them by. I believe that is double standards - the fact that we had to be on our best behaviour while they suited themselves. That is double standards, not by UEFA, but mainly by the media. What would have happend if we sang out the billy boys at the time? Looking at the sway in media attention, i think it would be fair to say that we would have been punished and not C*ltic. - Double Standards.

Its fair enough to have the view that we should focus on eradicating our own problems before we look at theirs but I disagree. I think that we should be able to say that what they are doing is wrong and should be pulled up for it as we are doing our utmost to prevent any sectarianism at our matches.

"Then in the away end, Celtic fans began to fight with police and stewards as some were pulled from of their seats and dragged out of one of the exits. It prompted a fierce, almost visceral chant in support of the IRA, which in turn caused a tumult around the stadium."

Thats only the first page of Google. Its a myth that papers ignore either sides issues. Some of our fans are forever moaning that they dont print anything about the other mob and co-incidentally, the other mob are forever moaning that the "establishment press" never print anything about us.

The truth is that scummy journos will print anything that sells a paper. (tu)

I appologise then. I was just angry because I didnt hear anything about this and read the paper everyday. at the time, all i heard was that a hearts fan had been arrested. didnt seem to notice any articles or national television news about the incident being anything about celtic fans singing IRA chants. I can only appologise. I must have been totally ignorant to all this.

Was talking to my mate earlier who supports Celtic and got talking about last season and the game where lennon got attacked, he told me when a Celtic fan was gettin thrown out the stadium by police, Celtic fans then started throwing objects at the officer, he also said there's a youtube video showing the incident

Anybody know if this is true? Can't remember seeing it reported or in papers

It was posted here at the time, don't have the link to hand. To be honest, I didn't think it was conclusive.

It can be double standards as celtics song book does not change for european matches abroad or away matches in any competition. The IRA are a terrorist organization in the eyes of most of the world and the E.U. Yet they have been free to show support and sing illegal songs in all competitions including Uefa.

Rangers however are not even allowed to respond with well your famine is over why dont you go home, which in freedom of speech terms would be a legitimate reply to songs of hate for our country and love for another. Rangers have been allowed to be treated unfairly by the media, uefa and there has been no outspoken board members to defend us... Until now.

No it CANT be double standards.

Celtic NOT getting banned for stuff during an SPL match whilst we get banned for stuff during a UEFA match CANNOT be held up as Double Standards which is what the Opening Post was all about.

If he had wrote an article on UEFA's or FARE's double standards on their action against us whilst others(not just them across the city) then that would be a different story. (tu)

You have not read the original post correctly or took in what he is trying to say. What he says that grabs my attention is:

I was shocked at how obvious their sectarian chants were

I just want the same rules to apply to everyone

Both true and valid points. They sing the same songs in the SPL as they do in UEFA competition. Illegal songs. However only Rangers have been punished and only Rangers have had to watch what they are singing in all competitions.

That is double standards.

I have read the original post and in it, he claims there was no press/media coverage of the singing which is blatantly wrong as I have proven by picking only 3 reports from page one of google. There was also TV coverage of it as well, not just the Neil Lennon attack, though granted that without doubt took a bit of heat of their behaviour that night.

No matter what way you twist it though, the claim is that our ban is double standards against that particular game and i am only pointing out its not.

You are 100% correct that UEFA should be taking action against them, but as things stand, sorry make that stood, people in influential places had UEFA's ear and this meant that there was an unfair balance on how we were dealt with in relation to other teams. Im convinced though that our club got the message across to UEFA at our last meeting with them that FARE are the exact opposite of their name.

Now if only we can just cut out everything from now on, and let them continue as they are until we are clean, then we can fight the good fight.

Its so much better fighting from a position of power and morality. (tu)
