Thermopylae 15,288
When I was growing up we were the club formed in 1873 where as now it seems to be 1872 ... has some new history came to light or are we taking the date from an earlier event that has always been known about? RM Monitor And Standards Officer 112,906
Its been like this since Rangers officially recognised it about 18-24 months ago
Thermopylae 15,288
Means we are the only Scottish club to have had a European trophy on the premises during our centenary

the goal machine 8,004
1873 was the year of the first AGM but it was in 1872 when we first started playing football.
JM1872 3,821
It was 1872 that the four founders created the Club and in May 1872 we played our first game.

CaptainAmerica18 846
I've always known it as being 1872. Read it on the history pages of the Rangers website a good few years ago.
TheFarmer 260
We played our first game in 1872, I think it has unofficially been known as 1872 for at least 10 years. Some official sources still claim it as 1873 though, which is annoying and confusing. JCDBigBear 11,059
I read an article last week which had the transcript of a speech by Tom Vallance at an event in 1887 in which he said the four boys started the club 15 years earlier. It is also on record that we played our first two games in 1872. No score draw against Callander in May and then an 11 nil win over a team called Clyde (not the current Clyde club apparently).
