South West Cider firm sponsors for key home friendly.

Popular South West Cider brand, Blackthorn, will be bringing together two of its sponsored clubs, for the first time, to do battle for the Blackthorn Cup.

The game, which is set to be the most exciting pre-season match in the calendar, will see Bristol City come head-to-head with Scottish giants Rangers for the first time, giving the hosts the chance to show off its new signings as well as lift the inaugural Blackthorn Cup.

The battle will commence at Ashton Gate on Saturday, July 13th 2013 (12.30pm kick-off). In the event of a draw, the trophy will be shared.

Ally McCoist’s Rangers have been given the entire Wedlock Stand, an allocation of 4,000 tickets, which they are expected to sell out.

Andy Cross, marketing manager of Blackthorn Cider, said: “As a proud supporter of South West sport, we are delighted to be able to bring these two teams together for the first time ever.

“Although it’s a pre-season friendly, it’s set to be a gritty but exciting clash, with Rangers fans already claiming a 4,000-seat allocation, so we urge City fans to come along and show their support for their local team!”

Kevin Smith, City’s commercial director, said: “We’ve received lots of phone calls and messages about this game from supporters and it looks likely it’s going to prove a very popular friendly match. It should be a great occasion.

“We’re very grateful to Blackthorn Cider for supporting this fixture and making it that extra bit special. It would be great to get some early silverware in the boardroom too.”

Tickets for the match will go on sale from 9am on Tuesday, July 2nd and are expected to prove very popular.

Tickets for the three home stands are priced: Adults - £16, Senior Citizens - £10, Under-18s £8. To buy simply call 0117 963 0600 or visit the BCFC Megastore at Ashton Gate. (No online sales)

Blackthorn Cider will be sponsoring the front of City’s home and away shirts for 2013/14 as well as the club’s trainingwear. The familiar name will also continue to receive exposure on the roof of the Atyeo Stand.
