Youth Football Standard

There's not a week goes by without someone banging on about sticking youth players into the team  (the weird thing being that they haven't even seen them playing) the latest being Bates. I laughed at some posts a few weeks supporting the idea that the u20 side could reach the Challenge Cup Final.

I know that when stenhousemuir pumped us 2/3 weeks ago we had a relatively young team but between that and the fact that the mhutant u20s are currently getting tanned 5-1 at ht to Livvy it begs the question what standard of player is currently in our youth ranks. It also raises concerns about scouting and coaching development - although it's encouraging to see Warburton overhauling our youth system.

It's of vital concern because the way the transfer market is continually going it's possibly our only prospect to develop a top class team is to have a conveyor belt of talent coming through. Or is it unrealistic to develop an u20 side that could challenge in this tournament?

From an entire squad of u21s we'd be doing well to find one player each season or two good enough to be a genuine first teamer. At the minute we have Mackay and that's it. Why would our u20s be better than seasoned pros. 

 

Look what happens when premiership teams put out a shadow team full of mostly kids in the cup. Pumped
