Thistle Date Confirmed

By Andrew Dickson

RANGERS will meet Partick Thistle in their Scottish Cup quarter-final replay on Sunday 13 April at Firhill Stadium, with kick-off at 3pm.

After the sides drew 1-1 at Ibrox on Wednesday night, the teams will play again on the date which had been set aside for one of the semi-finals.

Whoever wins the rematch at Firhill will then go on to meet St Johnstone in the last four a week later on Sunday 20 April at Hampden Park.

That game will start at 3pm, with BBC Scotland confirming they will show the match live on television.

SFA chief executive Gordon Smith said: "We were very conscious of the fixture congestion that is presently being faced.

"Having looked at all possibilities and discussed these with the SPL, the SFL and the clubs, we are delighted we have found the best solution available in the circumstances."

Probably been discussed elsewhere, but I read that we tried to get the game played this Tuesday, which would have led us to pull our international players out of their squads. Would have been ideal.

With the fixture list we have, what does Walter do in the domestic cup games ? Thistle first, then St Johnstone if we get through. Should Walter continue to use such games as an opportunity to rest players........or does he need to play his best side every time ?

Personally, despite what happened the other night, I'd like to see us rest players. The SPL and UEFA Cup are priority, the Scottish Cup is firmly in 3rd spot. If we can't beat 1st division opposition with a weakened side.......then it's just plain embarrassing, as it was the other night.

I'm really getting concerned that these games are going to affect our title and european hopes. :(

Partick Thistle Reject Quick Scottish Cup Replay With Rangers

Mar 21 2008 By Keith Jackson

PARTICK THISTLE last night pulled the plug on a plan for a quick-fire Scottish Cup replay with Rangers on Tuesday.

Record Sport understands the proposal would have seen Ibrox boss Walter Smith ask for 10 of his top-teamstars to be released from international duty, including five from the Scotland squad for the friendly against Croatia.

However, the idea of replaying the quarter-final next week was knocked on the head when the Jags insisted they could not get their Firhill ground ready at such short notice.

The First Division club plan to carry out major remedial work on their decaying main stand in order to maximise capacity for the return clash with Smith's men and cannot get the job done in time to open it up next week.

No date has yet been agreed for the replay but it looks most likely to go ahead on Sunday, April 13, the weekend originally set aside for the semi-finals.

The winners could then face St Johnstone in the last four three days later although this would leave the SFA facing a major logistical headache in terms of ticket allocation.

if we had done our job and beat partick thistle which our reserves should have been capable of, then we would not be in this position of a replay.

Our reserves got humped off the tims 4-1 the other day :(

Boo f*cking hoo i dont know if they are playing at home on Saturday but FFS how long do you need to prepare a pitch? if that really is the excuse then the SFA should of told them to f*ck off and get the game played this Tuesday coming :angry2:

That is complete and utter bullsh*t!

Only have ourselves to blame anyway. There is no way we should be drawing with sh*te like this at Ibrox. A tricky cup tie on the Sunday followed by an Old Firm game three days later. Exactly what we dont need.

When a ground is not suitable for a cup tie then they can ask to have the game moved to a better ground which would have been Ibrox Thistle would have made alot more cash. Since Thistle refused then why didn't Walter ask St Mirren or Motherwell to play postponed league games next week instead, since the spl are gonna make us play 4 games in 8 days if we make uefa cup final. Said a couple of months ago this would happen no way were the spl gonna extend the season for us.
