We have not had a player like that in about 5 years We've got arguably the most techincally gifted and two footed player the SPL has seen since Lubo Moravcik sitting on the bench. Lee McCulloch? rfc_no1fan 13 Posted December 20, 2008 Share Posted December 20, 2008 Sounds like we are playing well but just cant break Hibs down Lafferty and Mendes are playing well We are playing well INFRONT of Hibs, in areas where they will quite happily let us have the ball. They are even content to allow Mendes etc to shoot from distance as they have confidence in their keeper. We may sound like we are dominating, but Hibs will be more than happy with the outcome of the 1st half, they will come out a different team in the 2nd half. I've said many a time in the past that Ferguson and Mendes function when they have wingers to play outside to. The team just looks like a conjoined mess when Lafferty and Davis come inside. Lafferty occasionally cuts inside and then his pass is poor. On the right Davis or Whittaker cant beat their man and when they get space to cross they are high wide etc. Both Barry and Mendes are looking to make an incisive pass but Hibs have a lot of men back forcing Mendes to shoot a lot more than he wants. Horrible, horrible half. Yeah I am actually surprised at Hibs approach to this game though. If they had a go at us, Whittaker would stop getting forward.... They could get a run at Weir and Broadfoot and be able to pick the ball up in dangerous areas in between defense and midfield as neither Mendes or Barry like marking/tackling. If this does happen in the 2nd half, Boyd will become isolated, the gap between midfield and attack will increase, Laffert/davis will have to come deeper and more centrally and Miller will need to run the channels more. If I was hibs boss, My team talk at half time would be something along the lines of "That is the best Rangers have got and we havent even started yet. Keep it tight for 10-15 minutes, save some energy and then we will open up more and take the game to Rangers and we will create chances" I would only start to worry a bit more if we/Rangers put on some wide men and changed the approach to the game Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
